i'm not a native english speaker, and so far, listening to Ezra's lyrics, i came across terms/words like oxford comma, balaclava (originally i thought it was baklava, the turkish sweet pastry misspelled. Silly me), and cape cod (apparently it's not that famous cape in Africa, ha!). I don't think theres anything pretentious about their lyrics. Sometimes i'm not able to grasp the meaning of their songs though and need to google some proffesional interpretation published on websites like the rolling stones or pitchfork. There are so much cultural references that a non american millennial like me aren't able to understand :'( But hey, isn't this exactly what globalisation is all about, creating more understanding among all nations and bridge the cultural gap through soft power diplomacy that is the American (indie rock/pop) music.

Always took VW as abit of a fad band. But after watching some of their interviews absolutely blown away, every step intentional and greatly executed, a true artist expect more great things!

Such a vast vocabulary, yet still casually cusses. So real and unpretentious as can be. Idk why but I respect that.

To further expand on the advertising thing Ezra was talking about, i honestly can’t believe I’m saying this but if it wasn’t for corporations I wouldn’t have ever heard of vampire weekend at such a young age. I grew up playing lego rock band and at the age of like 6-7 I heard a punk for the first time in the game and ever since then I’ve been a fan lol.

The only thing pretentious about Ezra I can gather from this interview is the way he pronounces an "a" sound. What's up with that? And just the general lit-class manner of speaking. I think he knows this; ergo the very intentional counteraction of this with a well-placed smattering of curse words.
