Putting a chain back on a cuckoo clock wheel

Sometimes a cuckoo clock can have the chain come off the teeth of the cog and then the chain will slide freely, this will usually happen if clock is turned upside down without securing the chain to keep tension so that it will not come of the cog. This will show how I get the chain back on.

Thank you, you showed me what I needed to do and my clock is now cookcooing again! As an added bonus, this clock has been in my family for a very long time, and my late aunt and my Mom used to put pink flamingos in each other's houses when they visited each other. I found what has to be the last of Aunt Barbara's pink flamingo stickers inside the little door on the side of the clock. Mom is probably going to cry a bit when she hears about it.

So Awesome to tie the chains during travel, smart to know. Had a clock person work on my clock and it came back worse than I took it. He told me I needed to replace the whole mechanism. You taught me how to put the chains back on❤ that was the only thing wrong! I am so happy😁

Chris, thank you for this video. We recently moved overseas and brought our cuckoo clock with us . . . and yup, you guessed it. We didn't realize we needed to secure the chains before they were packed, and when we went to put up the cuckoo clock today, one of the chains had come off the teeth of the cog. Thanks to your video, I was able to get that darn chain back to where it belongs. Thanks a million!

Thanks for sharing this! I have an old German cuckoo clock that had one chain off of the cog and another that had slipped all the way through and this saved the day. It clicked for me once I realized I had to insert the screwdriver through the holes in the bottom of the clock to get the angle right to turn the cog.

Do you have a video that shows what to do if the weight is pulled all the way up on the left but it won't tick tock or stay running? I noticed on my cuckoo clock.the left weight is pulled completely up to the hole in the bottom of the wood and it does not seem to move down at all.

I have a 3 weight cuckoo clock the chain is coming down freely no tension on the musical/dancer chain. Any idea on how to fix so it won’t drop freely?

Could be on the cog but click not working or off the cog like shown in video. If click is broken buy a new wheel from Timesavers.com but most likely it's off the cog.

What if my chains are stuck? I had a family member wind my clock while I was on vacation. They pulled the weights all the way to the top and now the chain is stuck and I can't see what the problem is.

Is it safe to turn the cuckoo clock upside down while doing this?

Any other chains that are still attached to their cog will need to be secured so as not to come off too, a wire thru the links and up against the chain holes on bottom of case will hold it on the cog. You could slide the latch on cuckoo door shut so door doesn't open and allow wire on bellow to go above birds tail because then he won't allow door to close.
