Aircraft Maintenance engineer here. Reason why it wouldn’t shut off…engines are designed to continue to draw fuel via suction in the event of a fuel pump failure. Only true way to shut the engine off is to have a shut off valve, to starve the engine of fuel. On most aircraft, it’s known as the spar valve, and completely stops flow of fuel to the fuel pump. Next time you guys do this, get a proper shut off valve in the line.

I know it's probably supposed to be a secret but he was just simply out of signal range, or never even checked the signal in the first place. While he was on it he was using the box connected directly to the circuit. The whistle of the engine remained a constant tone every revolution, this means the speed of the engine was constant as the speed of the spin increased. Before they got off they set it at max throttle, then ran away hoping the remote would work. It's better for the youtuber to admit they made a mistake than for the general public to think jet self fueling is normal.

I feel like a better way of doing this is to channel the force of the jet engine with a pipe system, rather than mounting it on the side. Maybe the engine could be mounted to the ground, away from the ride, and a pipe could direct the flow of air up over or down under the merry go round and through the center where the pipe splits off into multiple channels in a spiral to the outside of the merry go round. You'd have to use a swivel joint which can spin where it connects with the merry go round. Insulating the pipes would also be necessary depending on how you mount them. You can bet those things will get super hot. This design would remove the danger of launching the jet engine, as it would be stationary. It would also significantly lighten the load, allowing it to get up to speed more quickly and also slow down more quickly. With all that exterior weight that you have currently, you're basically turning the merry go round into a flywheel. I'd also recommend installing a pull type kill switch. Attach a cable to your belt which will trigger the switch if you move too far from the center while riding it. You see these types of kill switches on treadmills. The lever type throttle you have is probably the worst choice for this application. It can get very difficult to control it when the forces are trying to remove you from the ride.
