Seems like villain and hero on different sides in love. The villain changes sides for the hero but the no one on the good side ever quite trusted them so when the one of the hero’s friends dies the hero gets mad at the villain for “letting it happen” and the villain is sitting there hoping the hero will believe them because they have no one else and also deciding whether or not they can forgive the hero for thinking that. The villain decides that the hero didn’t actually mean anything to them (the hero can’t, because if they did the villain trusted and changed for someone who betrayed them) and goes full big bad and is like I never loved you… and even if I did it can’t stop me this time

This song describes my current situation so well that it hurts. A year ago my best friend, that I loved, lied to me about his love for me, used me. After I realized it I stopped talking with him, and it felt like it's my fault. Not so long ago I apologized to him, and he hasn't changed but at least now I know what lies he tells me. While he "loves me" I don't like him anymore. He hurt me and I don't know how to get out of this relationship anymore. He doesn't understand the word "no".

My take on this: An abusive/toxic relationship with someone and the person who the song’s view is from wants to leave but fears that they’ll make the wrong decision. The person is confused and feels alone. They’re wondering whether to leave or stay because they fear that their partner is going to something that will harm others or themselves. They eventually come to the conclusion to just leave their partner and they leave a note addressed to the abusive partner : the lyrics to a song. They cut off their ex entirely. The ex partner succeeds in their suicide attempt and we see our narrator play the song on the piano as soon as they hear about their partner.
