Putting up drywall on wood and ICF walls in our lake house.

Episode 39: In this episode the whole family gets involved to hang drywall on the ICF walls and the wood-framed walls of the lake house. John shows how he uses a rotary saw to cut holes for the can lights and the electrical boxes. He also shows the special attachment for the impact driver that creates an easy way to screw in the drywall without pushing the screw in too deep.
There is quiet a debate on the internet of whether drywall should be hung vertically or horizontally. You will see it both ways in this episode.

What i need to understand is, does the panels gets screwed directly or pasted on to polystyrene?? How strong is it to hold the boards??? im confused polystyrene cant hold anything😢😢

There are plastic strips that act just like wood studs every 8 inches imbedded and part of the ICF blocks. The drywall is screwed into these plastic strips.

Just curious whether you did any kind of evaluation of drywall vs. plaster for your interior walls?

We did not consider plaster. Drywall is what we know how to do, so that is what we went with.

Why not 1/4" drywall? With that, it is lighter and ICF doesn't need any structural needs for thicker drywall. Just curious if there is a major flaw in using 1/4"?

Since I was hanging it by myself it was just easier to make sure it stayed rigid and didn't break on me. I haven't seen 1/4 used on walls, though I guess you could on ICF.

Do you do alot of work with ICF blocks? We are currently building our house, and we used these ICF blocks for the foundation/basement walls, the rest is wood frame. I have never even seen them before, but the people helping build recommended them and thats what we did.

ICF is great! Our entire house, roof,and garage floor are all ICF. If you visit our channel, we have lots of videos on how it all goes together.

Why run more expensive 12/2 NM-B Romex 20 amp wire for low-watt LED lights? Isn't this like using a fire hose as a drinking straw?

How did the flat roof work out with all the recent snow?

No issues with the snow at all! It the melting that is a problem 🤣. We have some sort of leak happening (very small), so rain or snow melt will come through ceiling in one place. Hopefully once the siding is one and the groove that was cut in roof if sealed up, that will stop. 🤞
