I have been struggling with this zipper for 30 minutes. My back has never hurt so badly. My hands and fingers are raw. And after this long, arduous, harrowing 30 minutes of my life, I finally was able to get it down. My mouth was agape with shock, and I sat with my head in my hands for 5 straight minutes, re-evaluating my entire life. I have never lost so much. But I am happy that I am free because of you. Thank you.

Like almost everyone commenting here, I struggled with trying to put on a zipper pull. I watched your video, and voila, I did it with no issues. I am not as speedy as you, but I can get it done. Like some of the commenters, I am older, and my fingers can hinder me a little. Just a random thought, but I honestly don't know how I accomplished anything before videos and creators like you who share creations, tips, tutorials, etc. Thank you.

I loved watching your tutorial today. I needed a refreshing will more a get my juices going on this task today. I decided to reupholster a 22 year old neglected Class B+ RV. I mean I'm also redesigning and making what I would term improved designing to most of the cushions. I have two very small bolsters to do with no changes in design but with a zipper on the bottom. Then the FUN begins for 10 cushions. Two backs and 2 seat bench cushions for the dinette. These will require around 60 inches of zipper each because I will be making what I've been taught in the 70's as floating sides. With an extended zipper that wraps around the back side of each cushion and along each side but ducks so to speak behind the rest of the sides that then cover the zipper if you want to tuck a single or double in my case zipper pulls with charms on the pulls. So 4 down and 6 to go. The original sofa appeared to have 3 separated seats with a back and seat cushion however they were all connected in a very complex design that was just as complicated to hog ring the entire works once sewn to the metal frames. I took the seat apart and ok that'll work but the back of the seat not so easy peasy. Oh sure I have done similar and done well but there was a not of nagging going on in my id brain and telling me to step back and think it out there is a better way. And there was. I cut out two full covers that will wrap around each back and seat metal frame. Will use hog rings much like originals were wrapped to hold in place. I may sew the sides or go with hog rings not sure yet. Fabrics cut out. Then I will drape fit the covers onto their respective frames and mark at near the top a line to sew 1.5" matching color velcro loop across the entire length or roughly 6 feet across. Then towards the base of this back I will run a second row of velcro approx 2" above where the back seat cushions and the back cushions would meat. Next repeat for the much deeper seat cushions. I will reuse the back cushions and making new foam cores with polyester batting surrounding the foam for the seats which I felt the original foam had signs of breaking down and not firm supported any longer. So once the metal bases have their velcro sewn in place with a few vertical pieces to insure the cushions stay aligned properly too I will lay the covers for the cushions to match with the velcro and add the hook velcro to the cushions so they will mate just right and sew those in place. Once that's done I will sew up the previously made zipper sides and rest of the sides for the cushions and voila have a cushion that looks like a full replica with a lot of problems the previous design created fixed. For one I want to use my class B+ RV usually set up as 2 twins for sleeping. But want to hold the option to jack knife open the sofa and make a King size bed if for any reason that's required. And by going with 6 independent separate cushions on the sofa I can remove the back seat cushions which are 4" deep and open up the actual sleeping area by 4 full inches which may be far more comfortable for adults. And that alone is a huge improvement. The dinette cushions will also benefit because they will be able to be turned and used either side but the originals made of a single length of piece from back to front didn't allow for the flip because they pieced in about 1/3 of the back side with vinyl not the full fabric. And finally all 10 cushions using the wrap around zippers from across the back sides and wrapping around the fronts will allow me to skip the need for vacuuming the foam filling and all and to me is a huge plus. So back to making 12 double zippers. I started a week and half ago and made the first bolster zippers by the yard. Worked great using #5 coil. Cut out several lengths for the dinette cushions. And got the first pull on but something was off. I inspected what was the trouble and low and behold in all my more than 50 years of using zippers by the yard going back to 1972 I had a flawed roll of zipper tape. One side was only catching the coil now and again and most of the time the double rows of stitches you should see going down both sides of the coil tape from the middle if you flip the coil over to the back and inspect looking for those rows was missing and skipping. One side was just fine the entire length. There is no way I could repair this as it's part of the original manufacturing of the zipper done with specialized machines. So picking up the bolster zippers I'd just made sure enough every few inches there was a 1-3 inch length of uncaught coil on one side. It was a year since I ordered the tape so no way to return it. I quickly ordered from a different vendor two more rolls of zipper in same color range. Sadly the tape is a more perfect match but the silver teeth are not nearly as attractive as the first bad tape zipper was. It's a small thing and you bet I inspected every inch of the new zipper rolls and probably will do so going forward. I had bought a pink zipper tape at the same time I ordered the grey that was bad and I inspected it too. Live and learn. By the way if you luck out and get zippers by the yard with ends that start out with a helpful no coil or teeth on them by all means take advantage and load your zipper pulls onto the tape in advance of need. I usually load 4-10 zipper pulls and work them to the other end. This allows me to make head to head double pulls or even butt to butt options. And did I mention how much I love zippers by the yard. Go back to the 70's and we didn't have all these amazing color choices. I'm always collecting more. I also learn of course you can save pulls or mix and match pulls from like sized and type of zippers premade or otherwise. I often need zippers that separate and so buy much longer ones then cut to fit my project which leaves me with a wonderful piece large enough to do other projects later by adding zipper pulls. I have quite the stash of color and designs and embellishments for zipper pulls. Just have to keep them separated from tooth zippers and sizes of each. I almost exclusively stay with #5 coil but my husband likes tooth and he's gone as large as #12 YKK plastic tooth for some of his customized cases he makes and a day pack he made in 1972 and to this day still uses exclusively for hiking and carrying his camera gear too. The zipper still works fine and looks like new. The red coated pack cloth is in decent shape too which is surprising because it is coated and often the coating will break down over time. Quick note never use oxyclean or similar products like blended into some detergents on any coated or PVC fabrics. It will destroy and break them down. It ruined a 230 dollar jacket I adored once so I learned the hard way. To me the key to success of putting on pulls is practice. I also find it helps to firmly hold the ends down to a hard table top or counter surface at the back ends and use the other hand to pull the zipper pull onto the zipper. And some for some reason is easier than others. I use a lot of zippers head to head because I really like that option in a lot of my upholstery work and utilitarian bags I make. Good luck everyone and hope you find the joys of making your own zippers as much fun as I have...and today yes feeling a bit daunted. That's primarily due to the bad batch of pulls that knocked me off schedule almost 2 weeks ago. Great Video by the way one of the best.

Oh my gosh!! This is amazing! I can never get those darn pulls back on, and it worked so slick! The only extra thing I did was use some Fray Stop on the zipper ends, and press it with an iron to dry it so it was still flexible but wouldn't fray. First try, on goes the pull!! I'm so happy!! @@thezipperlady Thank you, i saw that after i saw this one. But just from you showing me which way to point the zipper was helpful. But what was priceless was "pull the zipper apart to do it" AND the "give a little jiggle". Sounds so simple but to a newbie it meant everything because i was afraid to separate the zipper and not be able to get it back together again. Those two simple things worked so well that i didnt even have to cut off one side!!! I certainly appreciate you, Zipper Lady.!!!
