Dad: “You were listening to this at 16 I did good”. That was really cool to hear. Dope father son duo. Dad did do a good job!

This album is structured as a sort of album to his then-newborn son, hence why it vacillates between telling a story about "me and you mama" and "the night me and your mama met" and then going into almost cautionary tales about the zombies that always seem to orbit you and the way that society will see you as a young black man as a boogieman. That he in the the wraps it all up by telling him to stand tall, and then his voice cuts suddenly because eventually that's what will happen to your parents' voices in your life at some point. There's some great behind the scenes videos with Ludwig explaining how they made Redbone, and of course those live performances are incredible.

I love this album, Terrified and Baby Boy are the ones for me. One of my favorite albums from the last decade. I think you might want to take a look at Alabama Shakes. They have two albums only, unfortunately, but both are masterpieces, Boys & Girls and Sound & Color
