What makes the satellite PBS feed different from the usual PBS feed? I’m legitimately curious.

For feeds like this, what makes them different is the inclusion of a slate before each program feed. I collect these feeds.

@@TheVintageTVArchiveThat’s all? Was it possible to get the satellite feed on cable stations?

These slates were there to assist stations recording the programs to tape. The Ku-band satellite feeds, like this one (except for the PBS-X feed during this time, available on C-band satellite), were only meant for stations, though if someone had a Ku-band satellite dish, they could receive them if they had the proper equipment, like a DigiCipher descrambler. These feeds were not available over cable or consumer satellite services. As for the current Ku-band satellite feeds (focusing on HD01-HD03 only), HD03 is the only satellite feed which still shows slates before programs. HD01 and HD02 do not show slates, instead showing promos during the time a program is not being fed. The HD01 feed is available via satellite on DirecTV and Dish, but only if a subscriber does not have access to a local PBS station.
