real world comparison of a coulple talons, the green talon is mine, has 10 ply tusk terrabites and slip on exhaust, got the pv3 with a tune with launch control from hess motorsports. the red talon is bone stock with slip on exhaust. when i got the pv3 and the tune, i searched for a real comparison of a before and after to decide if i wanted to spend the money on a tune .. couldnt find much. racing another talon is a good comparison. the 10 ply tusk terrabites are pretty heavy, not to mention 2" taller, so with the hess tune it runs about the same with heavy 30" tires as it did stock

I just got my 20 lv 4x reflashed with Hess stock tune and it’s a difference for sure , rolls the 32s like the stockers

I would do a clutch relearn on it, I find that helps after you load the tune in there. On the Pioneers the clutch is so much more aggressive with the Tune and the temperatures are considerably dropped. About .5 seconds faster in the 0-40mph over stock. Like you said with the tires it's deceiving, that's why I like the time trials on the same machine Stock versus whatever tune. Just a FYI.

I’ve been considering the same tune for my machine so thanks for taking the time to make this video. For my riding style I’m not really concerned with top speed gains, but I am curious if it’s a noticeable difference/improvement in shift schedules and whether or not you can tell a difference while trail riding?

It’s noticeable all around. I think I hit 87 with 30” tires, speedo is off about 5 mph so makes it about 91-92 mph. Feels better from idle all the way up

Something doesn't seem right. My talon with the cops tune will smoke a stock talon. Even on 34s ile smoke a stock talon. So whats up?

Flashed the tune and lined them up. Only differences were exhaust and tires and wheels 🤷🏻‍♂️

The only way to do a proper "comparison" is to do two stock machines, side by side; HESS Tune on one and stock tune on the other, then swap the PV3 between machines to eliminate machine variables. I have been tuning EFI for many years, comparing apples to oranges here. Those heavy and tall tires are killing you in a drag race, not a "fair" test of the tune or the machine. Swap those tires and I would bet that the green one beats the red one. Net result of your test, either the stock HONDA tune is pretty good or the HESS Tune needs more work. One would expect that the HESS Tune should out perform the stock tune by a considerable margin on an otherwise stock machine.

That or as stated, the 10 ply 30” tires are bigger and heavier. If you swap between sets of tires, you already know it makes a huge difference. The green talon on 30” heavy 10 ply tires almost running with a stock machine is pretty good

@@allmoto9707 All true. However, As I said, I would like to see a heads up comparison with both test vehicles being identical, except for the tune. For me, that would tell me what I would want to know about the tune and the PV3. I understand why some people want big tires, but for me, I hate to give up the performance. It all comes down to our needs, personal preference and what compromises we are willing to make. Not putting down what you did, just looking for an answer that your test scenario did not provide.

Well, I didn’t find many or any comparison videos at all when I was looking. So at least it’s a general idea of the tune. Sure, not everyone wants bigger tires, but if your staying stock size tires for speed reasons, might as go ahead and buy a turbo or a different machine. Na talons aren’t fast. Mine will hit about 94 or so. Does what I want it to do.

@@allmoto9707 Yep and "doing what you want it to do" is all that matters. If you ever get a chance to do an apples to apples comparison video with both Talons configured with the same tires, it would probably answer many peoples questions, that was all I was saying. I've got a Pioneer, so speed is not what I am after. I would like more low end grunt, less heat and more positive clutch engagement in that transition or slip zone. I understand that these parameters can be adjusted as well using the PV3. Appreciate your replies and your video

If there’s one thing I’d like different with the talon, is they should reduce low gear by 40-50%. Mine will run 55 in low. It’s dumb. Reduction boss has 25% internal gear reduction, but it’s on high and low. I don’t want to lose high.. if it was on low side only I’d buy it today. I don’t ride fast much, but with a 6 speed trans you’d think they’d gear low where it’s good for crawling and power to turn some big tires. I sold my stock tires and wheels so that’s not an option. I have 4 sets of tires and wheels. Only talon I can compare with is running 32” carnivores now

tl1000brad takes a lot to turn bigger heavier tires. Gonna do another video, stock tires, and trying to get another tune the red talon to compare tunes

This is unimpressive to say the least. Unless you were running stock tune in beginning and forgot to say when you went to hess. The last few pulls you were about even but prior he smoked you every time.

Offroad Madness have you ever put bigger heavier tires on anything before? Stock talon has 28” tires, in running 30’s and they are 10 ply. They weigh like 47 lbs each. Stick for stock he would get me by 7 machine lengths. If you don’t think a tune will make this machine run with a stock talon, with bigger heavier tires, then you won’t be happy with any tube you get

I have, well aware how things work. Juat saying you got smoked bad in beginning so unless you were both on stock tune thats not impressive.

Im doing 32s soon and a hess tune. I have had excellent conversations with shawn about the tune and some options. Maybe it was just drivers or not being in same shift modes. Not bashing you or video but i expected better performance out of a tune. My rzr 900 it made a huge difference with no exhaust.

Made a difference on my machine too. These 10 ply tusk terrabites are heavy. Like 47-48 lbs each, just the tire. Take that x4 and that’s a lot of extra rotating mass plus being 2” taller. Makes a huge difference. We are gonna swap to stock tires and make another video. Also trying to get the cops tune for the red talon to add to next tune video

The reason he got smoked the first few times is because the other guy was in 4wd... right? as soon as they both went 4wd it was pretty even. Which means there is a noticeable difference in the tune- it kept the taller/ heavier tires up with the other machine
