Awesome work on the double bow! I love that style of bow. I'm not sure how much tension the front bow was under before stringing, but the bow's weight can be reduced by making the secondary strings longer and increased by making them shorter. I think you did a good job with connecting the limbs, can't wait to see this bow finished. That longbow looks good too. I like the way your tapered tips come out when they are finished. I'd love to try out one of your bows!
@fluzwup10 жыл бұрын
As the four limb bow is currently laid out, all four limbs move backwards as you draw, and forwards upon release. If you crossed the strings, so that the rear upper limb pulled the top forward limb down, making the "C shape closer to an "O", then when you released, the rear limbs would move forward, and the front limbs would move rearward. These forces would cancel each other out, and reduce the recoil of the bow. The closer the front and rear limbs were in mass and horizontal movement, the closer you would have to a recoilless bow.
@majo262610 жыл бұрын
wow, this needs more thum ups
@fadeboogie9 жыл бұрын
Scot Alexander, that's a great idea, that's the technique similar to a compound bow. The problem that a homemade bow like this one would have, is the redirections of the cords. BC of the absents of pullies, cords would criss cross all over this thing causing gripping and firing problems. Not to mention pullys direct tension up and Down "away from the shooter" if the cords snap. In your case, the cords and the limb would fire right back at the shooter in a failure situation.
@fluzwup9 жыл бұрын
It wasn't until after I saw this and started considering limb recoil that I realized that the trend towards horizontal limbs in compound bows was in fact done to cancel out the recoil. I also realized that there wasn't really any way to do this without pulleys, though the forward curve of a recurve bow would help by turning some of the limb compression from horizontal into vertical motion.
@jacobstaten23667 жыл бұрын
Scot Alexander at that rate, isn't it easier and more reliable to just make a traditional recurve or just make a pulley bow? If it's so hard to draw I'd just make it a crossbow.
@jeffvader8117 жыл бұрын
Technically that'd only reduce vibration, as a recoilless bow is impossible. Sorry but I get nitpicky over this sorta stuff.

thats why people dont show the target.... but given he doesn't know how long a bow needs to be a "longbow" (over 5 feet) and doesnt realise he's copied a design called a penobscot bow.. If you are still interested in archery, may I offer a couple recommendations. While historically, the "Longbowmen" use an extra "oomph" at the end of their draw to eek out an extra few yards of distance with their HEAVY arrows designed to pierce mail, chainmail, helmets, etc, if you wish to improve your accuracy, take your stance, draw your bow to your cheek with your elbow as low as you can with your strength and the bow, breath out, release between heartbeats, and maintain your stance till the arrow hits your target. let the bow do what it wants after release, (usually fall forward depending on where it's balanced). you don't want to be "Ham Fisting" the bow, you want to be aiming the arrow. best of luck to you.

uh.. a tradition longbow is 100 pound draw.. are you talking about warbows? they were 120 pound.. not much more usefull for armor. But the big difference was the arrowhead. A bodkin point was long enough to pierce armor from any longbow at the time

Some tribes used this to make their own version of a compound bow. unlike the compound bows of today the primitive compound bow required a more power full individual to pull or use. P.S. you learn how ta shoot a bow by putting in the effort moron! nothing makes perfect like a lot of practice. I used ta call a compound bow a handicap for hunters and my wife told me ta buy one and prove it so I did. I owned a gun shop FFL and all that and now all I hunt with is a bow. No fun in hunting with something that goes bang and then just going and picking the game up at 1-300 yards. since I started bow hunting I have never shot a deer or hog at more than 20 yards and have no reason to. If I can't be reasonably sure of my shot I see no reason to take it. Doesn't mean that I don't screw it up every now and then. I love firearms for their magic.. reachin out their but can take anything I want with a little more patients with a stick and string! past survival and just livin! luv your vid man!!! keep it up!! PVC if the shit hits the fan you can still dig it up and use it!

Looks like a Penobscot bow with more curvature to the secondary power limbs. The Penobscot Bow is a rather curious bow and accurate out to 100+ yards according to journal entries by early explorers. Several people consider it an early type of compound bow with adjustable draw weight.

The 2 limb bow (same design) was used by the Turks hundreds of years ago - I believe it was the Turks, and in the Orient. Looking at old drawings and paintings, I was surprised at how short some of these bows were and the pull weight was high. From old manuscripts, the shooting ability of those who were high in rank in the military back then (especially guards to VIPs) was incredible. Not only accuracy, but also the number of arrows they had to shoot within a short period of time. Other materials were used for limbs (especially the front limbs) - such as horn.

'The double bow' was used historically in some war in the jungles around Asia and India way back in the days. The idea originally came up because of the jungle, earlier bows with that power was Ballistas, and was dragged around. They ware to large to be effective in deep jungle wars zones. The shorter bow span got compensated by a additional bow. Your design is a bit different - but the principle is the same. Awesome jobb! it looks rely nice :)

It's obvious you put a lot of work into the making of your bows. Nice job too. A couple tips. Once you've drawn the bow back to your desired distance maintain your form throughout the shot. Don't thrust your left hand and arm forward and your right hand and arm to the rear. You'll achieve more accurate shots. Lastly, use a quiver to have more arrows available. You'll not be walking off camera so much. During my college years I took an archery class and learned a few things. Have fun.

Very interesting design! You should test the penetrating power of both bows for comparison on video. As for the name, WHat do you think about the 'Longshot"? I say that because your distance should also be increased with the second bow. Give your bow more range.
