Don’t quote me on this but I did hear pvc releases toxic gas when it is heated up. So maybe a respirator or gas mask for the part on heating it up. Other than that good idea I may be doing something like this as I only have u post and not t posts and can’t find insulators that are clearly designed for the u post i have.
