Why we use mercury in barometer? 1) Mercury is more dense. Its relative density is 13.534 times more than water. So, to measure the atmospheric pressure which is 760 mm of Mercury you need a barometer with Mercury of length slightly more than 0.76 meter say one meter to cover the special cases of some higher pressure. 2) whether the Mercury being a metal therefore it has shining quality it shows the reading clear. 3) also mercury having comparatively lower specific heat and good conductor of heat, could come to the same temperature of the atmosphere more quickly.

2:45:48--we do not use mercury because-- Water is invisible so it will create the problem in reading. Water has wettable nature. While using water we have to use barometer of very long height about 10meter. So using mercury is much better choice.

Mercury is much denser than water, so the atmospheric pressure can only 'hold up' about 76 cm. or 32 inches --much more convenient! Mercury is much denser than water, hence it can accomodate atmospheric pressure easily as compared to water. if water is used in barometer tube instead of mercury, the length of the tube must be greater than 10.326 m. A greater height will be difficult to hold in a vertical position and needs a high tower to install the barometer. So, we cannot replace mercury by water in the barometer.

Mercury is commonly used in barometers because its high density means the height of the column can be a reasonable size to measure atmospheric pressure. A barometer using water, for instance, would need to be 13.6 times taller than a mercury barometer to obtain the same pressure difference

I am a student of pw vidyapeeth kota. Even attending continuous classes our more than 3/4th of the class is still dependent on KZbin videos of Alakh sir and M.R. sir. Even already enrolled in a course, we are in search of other teachers and this is not only my condition many of students of other batches are doing this only. Most of the students have problem with physics teachers only. We are actually surprised that in PW, we are unable to deal with the physics only. 😅 I am not pointing out this coaching, our other subjects faculty is just amazing and all the teachers are fully dedicated and give there respective time and good response. The problem is we are feeling hard to kope up with physics. I am thankful of Alakh sir and all the teachers too for doing so much efforts for us. But sir, if our physics could help us a little more it will be our pleasure.🙏🙏🙏

I have doubt in Q8 at 1:03:37. vessels have same base area. hence A is same. also equal volume is poured. This means V is same. Also density is same as the same liquid is poured. So, Mass of the liquid becomes same. Since only gravitational force is influencing force on the base and mass is same, then shouldn't force be same at the base irrespective of shape of container? if anyone can clarify where im wrong, then would be grateful.
