On Tuesday 3 December 2024, people from all over Australia joined People with Disability Australia (PWDA) to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) at our online conference, A Voice of Our Own. This event was designed by and for people with disability.
The event started with a warm welcome from Trinity Ford, the Interim President of PWDA, who highlighted how important it is for people with disability to lead initiatives that promote equality and justice.
We had a fantastic lineup of speakers who are advocates and leaders from our community, including Dr. Alistair McEwan, Dr. Scott Avery, Ann-Mason Furmage, Akii Ngo, Belinda Kochanowska, Cat Walker, Hannah Solomons, Isabella Choate, Leigh Creighton, Marayke Jonkers, Naomi Anderson, and Uncle Paul Constable Calcott. They were joined in the conversation by PWDA Directors Eva Sifis and Daniel Flynn, along with Deputy CEO Megan Spindler-Smith.
We were also treated to a powerful performance by award-winning musician Eliza Hull, who shared her personal story, her journey to Disability Pride, and her song "Running Underwater."
