"I always try to just be myself. Sometimes I make songs and albums of spilled guts deep reaching ideas and send them out to all the strangers in the world, but mostly I’ve tried to keep the real daily life private. I’ve wanted to share the meat and hide the skin. Now I find myself surprised to be revealing a beautifully filmed portrait version of this home life; the simple routines with my young daughter, the meandering ideas that burble out unformed. Our lived moments aren’t the art project, but a picture of our little world with its everyday light and shadows, the place where we actually live. Coffee and oatmeal on a school morning, talking again about death and jokes and emptiness."

The way he talks to his daughter, the way he is willing to repeat himself, is patient, smiles and speaks, he is a good father. Phil is my favorite musician, possibly favorite artist in any medium, ever, so getting a little peek into his life is nice and interesting. What a man. Thank you Phil.

Hi Phil, I just found out about Geneviève from finding the book of her collected works you edited at the Seattle Library. There is something about her that I connect with so deeply. So, no surprise. This film is beautiful. Phil is beautiful. His daughter is beautiful. Their life is beautiful. The land is beautiful. The sound is beautiful. What is said about nearly all musicians of assumed merit, that they're original, genius, unlike anyone else - is so uniquely true of Phil that he doesn't even seem real to me sometimes. And that might be the most important part; Phil is so unlike any other human I've ever witnessed, but also just like every single one of us. That's his magic. He's just trying to show us our own.

Phil's work is really inspiring for me, and probably for any other artist who's ever come across his work but I really have to applaud the awesome team behind this, every aspect that was worked on here standed out to me, every single guy in the credits did their thing a little too well. This conveys perfectly that calming forest cold feeling that Phil's music emanates; green, grey and blue tinted, slow moving reflections. I can't really say much other than, as a film student, this is really exciting and inspiring. Thank you Phil for your countless efforts and to the team behind this beautiful short documentary.

dear phil, you have always been a great artist that i could look up to. more than that, i always felt some kind of intimacy when i listened to your music and your thoughts. the way you move me to tears has always been so special, i felt known whenever i heard your voice, read your poetry. feeling is what makes us human and your music is the best soundtrack that could have ever been to accompany my emotions. whether i was sad or joyous, they always rang in my ears. it was enough to make life beautiful to me. this short little piece of art made me feel at home. it is so comforting to see you in peace. after watching this, it is easier to appreciate the sunshine that comes after every storm to say ''you're okay'' and shine til' the eternity that is now and tomorrow and some more. i wish you and your daughter the best. thank you for existing.

looking at everything from this perspective is really beautiful, i feel like the human experience IS a thing that's difficult to convey not in just music or art but even our own language. There's no way to describe using any word within the English language or any other language to specifically describe how you feel in a given situation, that, is the human experience. Alot of philosophers shorten the word to "Phaneron" ie what exists within your own mind, your thoughts and opinions and perspectives that play a role in your actions interacting with the physical and very real world around you. Microphones in 2020 is just a fantastic example of displaying all of this. I c a n n o t wait to see what else he makes from these ideas :)))

Just got to see his show in Toronto this past weekend. He definitely conveys the full spectrum of emotions when he plays live. I had moments where I was laughing, where I felt introspective, and then where (of course) I was weeping. He really inspires me simply just for being able to be a normal guy that puts things really eloquently into song.

What I appreciate most about Phil is his ability to talk about themes such as eternity and presence without them coming across as trite or overblown. These ideas are inextricably linked to his work, and I would say he conveys them in a way most artists could only dream of. Also, the bit about him being the "heavy, weight of the world" guy was taken almost verbatim from a Marc Maron interview they did around the time of A Crow Looked At Me. It's funny how those words stuck with him, even though he laughed it off in the interview.

phils music makes up most of what ive listened to for the past 4-5 years. i listen to music constantly and probably 70% of the time at this point its either mount eerie or the microphones. on the surface it is sad music, but when you live with it for longer you begin to realize it encompasses so much more. for me even an album like a crow looked at me is something I'll listen to regardless of my mood. at the end of the day it all opens me up to feel so many emotions. i find so much comfort in his albums, more so than anything else i've experienced. thank you for making this art and continuing to put yourself out there. this video was incredibly inspiring.
