I bought a low B single and a low E drone after watching this. They arrived fast from UK and were well packed. Helps to heat with a hair dryer a bit to assemble. Sound great and are a lot of fun. I love wood flutes and have many but the drones and low ones are just so expensive. Love all your videos Cutie Pie, you are a fantastic person and player.

PYNflutes are amazing! I have 4 of them including a Dm drone. I had 3 holes added on the drone side to make harmony drones of them as well as an Am single. Everyone loves them especially the people at the nursing home where I work. Your skill is wonderful! I so enjoyed listening to you play. Keep on flutin'.

Hello! Would you happen to have any links / resources / lessons learned on adding additional holes to the drone side?
@midnightsun95592 жыл бұрын
@@sean6012 Dear Sananda; Mostly I have worked my own way through drone flute playing. What I have found during my experiments is that having as wide of a positive grip is essential especially on the larger flutes. 1.) You can always use cello tape or small corks to block off holes that are not harmonious with your scale; for instance; block the top 2 holes on the drone side if playing the major equivalent key. Block off the top hole on the drone side if playing in the 4th mode. Block off all the holes on the drone side for the classic drone sound. 2.) With a little practice, you can use your pinkie finger of your bottom hand to play the top hole of the drone side - it is so interesting to listen to that modulation. 3.) For the beautiful sound of a Mayan temple drone, use your right hand on the top of the 6-hole side remembering to keep the ring finger on the 3d hole from the top (or use a plug or piece of tape on it). Now use your pinkie on the hole south of the blocked hole. And here is where it gets interesting - use your left hand on the drone side. When you play both sides together, they will play in harmony no matter what holes you use! Just beautiful!! Mayan harmony (Mayan Temple Harmony) drones are VERY expensive. this gives you that sound on a very versatile flute. By the way, Jonny Lipford has some instructional KZbin videos on playing drone flutes. They are excellent. Cheers.
@midnightsun95592 жыл бұрын
OH, yes, Reza should have the programme for Gm, Em, and Dm with the 3 extra holes on the drone side. He also does a "double decker" drone flute like the one Tim Blueflint makes.

Sounds very good, plays loud and the intonation is excellent. I once bought a native style flute (wood) for about $30 in a gift store in a mountain national park, and it was just very poorly made, but it looked amazing. Great quality Native American style flutes are supplied by a good number of makers in the US and Canada. This PYN version helps solve a problem; an introduction instrument for some, at a very low cost.

Hello Stephanie, I love the sound. A low D drone would take a lot of lung capacity though. I have a mid G split style drone that takes about all the air I can take in to play a phrase. I paid extra to have the bottom three holes drilled on the drone side. They can be covered with leather ties or the ties can be removed to play the low notes on the drone side while playing the higher notes on the main side for a really awesome sound. To play a double barrel shotgun style drone I would have to have the drone on the right as I play left hand on bottom. Try reaching across to the bottom holes with your left hand on bottom and you'll see what I'm talking about. I gave a 400 dollar low E drone flute away to a friend for that reason. People who play left handed should keep that in mind before buying the shotgun style drones. Toksa Akhe Mithakhola

👋Bravo! In fact, I’ll give you two big thumps-up. 👍👍 Great sounding Native American flute - the indigenous instrument of my homeland! 😉 BTW: When are you going to add the diatonic pan flute to your cornucopia of wind instruments? 🤔 Unlike my Bb trumpet and flugelhorn that require a lot of embouchure: the diatonic pan flute, like the pentatonic Native American flute, requires virtually no embouchure, if any. However, the more you go up the pan flute pipe ladder, the more aperture you’ll need. 🤫 "Try it, you'll like it!" The thousands of devoted pan flute players across Europe, Asia and the Americas (myself included) can't all be wrong. I personally own and play the diatonic 15-pipe Romanian alto pan flute that plays in the key of C major. Happy fluting! ♫ 😊

@CutiepieTinWhistle Жыл бұрын
You could adjust the position of the top section to flatten the sound. It's quite likely that this flute is tuned to A342hz rather than A440hz though, which might explain why it would appear out of tune on a tuner. 😊 it's not an instrument I tend to play with others so I hadn't thought to check the tuning!

They're really easy to play as it's all improvisation too. Just grab and blow and enjoy the sounds! Granted there's a bit of a stretch across the double barrel body, and a fair bit of breath required for sustained playing of the drone and melody flute, but if you're playing your own improvisation, you can stop to take breaths whenever you need to.

I think it's pretty strong! Probably wouldn't want to drop it but you wouldn't want to drop a wooden one either! The main benefits are obviously the price and the maintenance. Wooden ones need to be properly dried, stored and oiled, whereas the 3D printed version doesn't really need any real care.
