This function has neither maxima nor minima, when x,y range to R. .. Similarly, but trick, if x=y then f(x) =-2x^4 then again f'=0 gives x=0 and f'' gives point of inflection. Thus no maxima , no minima

Yes, Do same thing .But put from eqn 2 .solve for y .and put the value of y into first eqn .you will get the answer .
