“It’s smash brothers, you die off stage!” I would agree in every other smash game, but in ultimate there’s such a small amount of characters that are easy to edge guard and aegis is one of them. Look at Diddy, Gavin essentially NEVER has people come off stage for him because his recovery is so good (a small amount of people, like Light, will go off for him tho)

Thats because players dont edge guard as much as they should in this game. I mean look at how much sparg0 gets back to stage as CLOUD. Honestly, a lot of top players are just straight up bad at edge guarding and dont do it enough. Its not that you cant, its that they dont. They'd rather just sit on ledge and ledge trap rather than go for edge guards. Sometimes that makes sense, but sometimes it doesnt, but they do it every time anyways.

Not a single top player solo mains Aegis. The people who keep saying "just play Aegis better" are people who do NOT play Aegis, or who are low-level/mid-level players. Other characters are top 8 majors and winning them solo. Aegis is very powerful, and oppressive, and very good... but I think dismissing this fact is silly.

The fundamental difference between Pikachu and Aegis, is that Pikachu players believe in their character and think THEY need to play better, and people who don't play Aegis think OTHER players need to play better.

I personally think Pyra and Mythra are really good chararcters (especially Pyra is underrated) but not as much as people say firstly because their recovery isnt really great and since I think that off stage plays are or should be a big part of the game its a pretty big negative and second Mythra's tilt attacks (at least I heard) are not safe on shield There's a KZbin channel name Baselaard that covers pretty much Pyra and Mythra only and I think he's really good knowlegeable and honest about the chararcter As for the placement in a tier list I dont really like or belive in tier lists so I dont know And lastly this is just my opinion I am nowhere near a good player but these are my thoughts based on my experience and from watching some tournament sets on KZbin

I need that KZbinr before. The problem is that they have all that knowledge. Heck, spargo was the one who opened the character metagame, the characters gets reversal(robbed) to much. Doing 40-50 damage ain't impressive because most top tier can do it and switching to pyra always result in a stock loss or she's never out because there's no openings for her. Everyone respects down air so no one is going to be exactly under her.

Roy above Aegis is crazy. His recovery is slightly better at most and he's just a worse character than Mythra in general. The more the character loses neutral the more the offstage issue is relevant. Fox is understandable, but you're again, trading a slightly better recovery for being one of the lightest characters in the game. Mythra having a sword takes away so many of the weaknesses Fox has. Fox always has to come in close, but trades for him are terrible and characters with good OoS dismantle him completely. None of that exists with Mythra. In the few matchups where her weaker shield pressure really becomes an issue (like Peach and Diddy,) she still has her superb manoeuverability to fight with. Like Tweek said, dash attack is ridiculous. In general, her burst range is unreactable. All she has to do is guess right. Fox can't fight his tougher mus like that, hence why they're worse. Aegis players just have to grind like every other character in the game. Character has everything you need, main thing to work on is just decision making/option select. Top 5.

Who thinks Mythra gets a full combo from any hit? All the top level Aegis gameplay says otherwise. You get a full combo sometimes, but most of the time, you don't.

Yeah a lot of Mythra's combos are fake. They feel true because she usually has the speed to catch your reactions but most of her combos aren't true and even if they are, her piss awful damage just makes it like an extra 7% on top of her combo. I don't think Aegis is a bad character, still Top Tier, but I agree with Leo and Maister in that they feel too flawed to be Top 10.

I think it's so debatable on Aegis because they either only analyse Pyra or Mythra. But the thing is you always have access to both. And that's the combination of both that makes the character so strong. You can see the same with Pokemon Trainer to a lesser degree. They're very lacking in specific areas alone but if you switch at the right time you can use the strengths of all of them to have a very solid character. To me that's the proof of perfectly designed characters with switching mechanics.

I think aegis are top 10 potential but they need a little more optimization in tournament to really get there. They’re kinda in the same position as steve where they’re so naturally good you don’t need to optimize them, so people simplify their gameplay. Also tweek is spitting about the hurtbox shifting, pyra forward air is like if you took melee marth’s grab and made it an aerial

I feel like when people talk about where a character should be on a tier list it would be better to talk about what matchups they lose and how much they lose by (and what matchups they win and how much they win by) rather than just various attributes in a vacuum, because like, realistically an attribute in isolation means fairly little, while a matchup spread should represent how much of the lifting a character will do in bracket. it's something I've noticed as an thing a lot more in ultimate than other communities I'm involved in, and granted that's prolly because the roster for ult is absurdly huge, so it's harder to weigh all of them, but still

They are easily gimped but Mythra has Foresight and Pyra has giant hitboxes. People give Aegis and Kazuya players flak for being “carried by DLC” when in reality Shuton and Riddles carry them. You could say the same thing about 2019 MKLeo when Joker was new.

Aegis is great in most ways except for top level solo main representation. Has seen more success as a secondary or counterpick. Very few bad mstchups really, so in theory someone could win majors maining Aegis. But especially since Cosmos fell off, no one is doing it. Steve, Cloud, Sonic, Wario, Diddy, G&W, Fox, ROB, and Joker have all won more major tournaments as someone's main pick. That's 9. Not sure what the 10th one would be though if not Aegis.

The only thing bad about cloud is his recovery. But even then, it's only bad sometimes. Everything else about him is easily top-tier material (except grab). One of the fastest yet long swordies, genuinely unpunisable/uncontestable aerials that let him him win all air-to-airs and snuff out plenty of grounded options. Plus crossslash being an anti-air and limit CS being untechable at really low percents or terrifying kill option in edgeguarding situations. They have it all, and tons of x-factor.

I was an Aegis main on her release and im a xenoblade fan but i started to lose faith in them a bit since everyone got so good at the mu. But this argument def made me realize that "yeah she instantly gets nuked off stage, but like, just dont let that happen and she is still god lol." Aegis is at least top 10 minimum even if she isnt that deep into top 10. But i think Aegis has to play more patient and just abuse that raw whiff punish alot more, but its hard to not just make a mistake and die. So i guess we should just think of her kinda of like Akuma from SF. She nukes you but she dies from basically anyone for any mistake. Shes still top 10 though imo at least.
