The most notable occurrence of this was with the category "Attractive Things" The clue giver said "magnets" and got buzzed because it wasn't following the same line as the other clues. Dick even said "Magnets attract, so that makes them attractive" After the commercial break, they reversed the ruling and gave the contestant the $25,000

@@richardhernandez4490 Actually, Leonard Nimoy mentioned the incident in one of his books. He said they wanted Shatner back because of the high ratings generated...but William told Leonard he turned them down because he felt he was not a good player, and didn't want to deny people money due to his play. That loss really hit him hard! The contestant that lost told him something about what she was going to do with the money, but I can't remember (it shook him up).

When Joanne says "The passengers on an incoming flight", Dick said "Too many words, my dear" and when she asks if "incoming flight" would have been alright, Dick confirms and says "Don't say anything more", however "an incoming flight's passengers" would have been acceptable.

I'm guessing SUPERIOR/GREAT are synonymous? I guarantee the judges went right to the dictionary on that
@richardhernandez4490
@richardhernandez4490 11 ай бұрын
Superior has at least two definitions: one noun and one adjective. The adjective definition is greater in quantity of numbers. You can NOT use a definition of a keyword in the Winner's Circle, and Charlie got zapped on it. They check BOTH definitions and synonyms beforehand.

22:16: Charlie's illegal clue IMO...there were several violations. 1: Off topic. 2: Definition. There's several definitions of superior, and the superior on the adjective says this: "greater in quantity of numbers" Yeah Charlie, you lost this battle cause superior means greater in the adjective sense and they are strict on definitions too.

That definitely sounds accurate as well as do not use prepositions except for noun forms, don't use synonyms, don't give descriptive clues, don't reiterate and duplicate ANY part of the subject, and do not give clues that don't pertain to the subject in ANY way. Following those parameters can be difficult sometimes.

There was one disqualification I remember a while back...Jamie Farr had PARTS OF A GUN and said "a revolver." The judge gave him the automatic zap. After the commercial was over, Dick was at his podium with the dictionary and said this: Revolver--a handgun. Not only off topic, but a definition unfortunately. The judge was right to zap Jamie.
@bmasters1981

Yes, because a revolver is a kind of gun, not part of a gun; because the category was "parts of a gun," he could have said "trigger," "barrel," or "grip" (those would have fit the subject).
