You know.. we don’t talk about this. But we all have this same feeling in our stomach. Especially from the history of CIG behavior. Crew grouping, coordination, bed logging, ship save states all need to be solid unbreakable features and work all the time before Pyro comes.

They added a lot of extra space stations to Pyro when it was retconned so I don't see this as a problem and lets be real forcing people to have to crew up with only 2 systems would be a punishment for most of the backers.

The question is how will it work if I logout on my friend's ship and log back in with him not online? Will i spawn on an empty ship or will I be TP to the nearest station?

While it may have "also" effected combat logging, bed logging was primarily disabled because it was not yet implemented with Persistent Entity Streaming and was causing problems with ships disappearing when passengers bed logged. Ships were also becoming unclaimable and were effectively lost when non-owner bed logs occured. This was talked about on ISC and several devs chimed in as well. It does need to come back for Pyro though and exploration gameplay in general. Thanks for the great video as ususal!

if i remember correctly from 3.18 ptu last december, at first bedlogging was disabled completely as it broke with PES - then they managed to make it work for the owner. big issue is though - if a crewmember tries to log on when the owner's ship is not spawned in the verse.

This is a problem for sure. I’d like to see some sort of inconsequential routing system for login. 1) Allow crew to log out of your ship. 2) a captain (ship owner) will always be tied to the ship he has pulled. He can bed log, but not in combat. 3) if he needs to log out while his ship is on play, it stays in the verse until the last crew member logs out. 4) Allow crew members to log back in to the ship or nearest station (come up with some thing like player hitched ride to nearest station/base with passer by NPC) if they choose. (Make it cost money?) 5) allow crew permission assignment for Respawn ship. Crew members with this permission can log back into the verse on your ship, respawning the ship. 6) create mechanic to allow the quanta system to simulate your travel to an end point. Just because our quantum systems can go a particular distance at a particular top speed doesn’t mean they should. Allow log out in quantum and justify that a ship arrives when a player with ‘spawn ship’ permission logs into the ship again. 7) Allow for offline interactions that require simple decisions: work decision making into a phone app for a ship owner. This would be key for folks who own bigger ships like the Merchantman. If, for example, you have a contract to purchase a given supply, allow offline haggling based on your resources via this app. Allow your ship to dock if a given amount of time has passed and the ship could conceivably have passed a station or something. Allow for the quanta simulation to help tell the story when you cannot be online as a ship owner. Democratize decisions for other players when they are offline, but their next session will be affected by their attachment to your ship. All this could tie to an offline play app. It’s a hard problem, but it’s an ambitious project. In all reality, no one can play 24/7/365 and we need some heavier mechanics to support long journeys and multisession multicrew gameplay.

We need weapon insurance back.. and seems everyone forgot about escape pods.. and what about being able to use the armor slots like in a corsair.. small stuff that would have huge impact on the game is missing

My assumption is that this is actually related to the replication layer. Don't forget we just got PES, which separates the object from the server into the replication layer. Now the whole layer will be separated from the server. When it is, any login/logout will stream the player in. That's at least my smooth brain understanding of it. Hence my expectation will be a better bed logging mechanism, most likely combined with an improved party/ship system, will come with the replication layer being separated.

You should be able to designate roles on your ship and privileges. I’d like to be able to have my crew use my ship even if I’m not online when they return from bedlog but only if they were given those high level permissions. Then non friends would get booted back to wherever they came from

I honestly suspect that CIG wont do anything to remedy this in the near-ish future and instead rely on the fanatic part of the community to defend lack of QoL features as some sort of skill issue or punishment for unwillingness to put up with potentially hours of futile prepwork until you get to do what you actually wanted to do; having fun with gameplay. The meta for Pyro will probably be ships that can be confortably soloed while still offering range and inventory for endurance. The Vanguards come to mind. On the bright side, Pyro may actually bring an end to the light fighter meta, at least until we get a proper carrier like the Liberator (Kraken is likely still years away).

I don't think the party system is stable enough at the moment, the server seems to lose track of who is in or out of your party at a given time, which I think is why we see so many issues with multicrew cargo. So on that, there may be someone on your ship that the server doesn't fully recognise as being in your party, so no bed log.

The simpliest solution would be that CIG develops a Right Management System coupled with a decent user interface. But when i see the state of various parts of the PU project, like physics or the mess in ships balance, after 11 years of development, let's say i seriously doubt we will see anything functionnal before 20 or so years. I would rather think CIG will stick to quick and dirty tricks like the bed log situation.

I hope that the jump gates from Pyro to Stanton and vice versa teleports the player to the other system with a load screen in-between so that we don't have to do character resets just to play in another system and get to a dropdown menu. A progress bar for all loading screens would be nice too so that we can see when it froze and when it's actually working.

One quick thing: another problem they had with bedlogging with multiple crew were duplicating avatars. I don't know if you guys remember but early on during the Evocati/Wave 1 phase of 3.18 there were bugs where players would logout, log back in, and there would be duplicates of the player avatar that were still alive where they last logged out. They also had this problem with bedlogging, too, and there was a small uproar on Reddit when bedlogging was temporarily disabled for a few patches in Evocati. I'm guessing this is a vital part of the experience for CIG, too, it just hasn't been high up on the priority list to fix yet.

The problem with bed logging and combat, which I think CIG is still trying to figure out, is that a pirate can scan a ship, see that it's only got the pilot on board, and decide it's a safe target. Then they engage the ship and board, and as they are fighting reinforcements are magically showing up from every bed in the ship. It's a reverse combat log exploit, where you can hide your true numbers using an out of game tool. The exploit is like this: you have a full crew, spot a pirate on the scanner and everyone except the pilot bedlogs. Then you wait to be boarded and log back in.

I think a easy way to allow for crew bed logging is once we have the ability to assign jobs and roles to crew members with one of them bing a generic "you, X, can log out in any crew bed on board" to maybe even something where you can basically bag a particular bed, maybe has your player name on it and a permission where "X player can log out using this personal bed"

One of my problems with multicrew is the fact that the ship owner needs to be in the pilot seat to hail a stationto lift-off or land. If a non-owner is in the pilot seat - the station control tower ignores you :(

Or like last night my buddy landed my ship at the city and I could not open the sores to leave he had to. When I tried it kept giving me landing areas and not opening the hangar until he did it.

I’ve been trying to ask about this for ages, I hadn’t realised it was a combat logging protection, i honestly thought it was a technical limitation, since it was around the same time as PES came in. Very annoying. I want this back so much, it’s a huge time saver!

It got royally borked when Persisten Entity Streaming came online and they had to temporarily remove it. It was primarily a technical limitation with PES while also having the side benefit of stoping combat logging in that manner.

I think beds of ships you log out of your character just lays there until that ship is stored, then you start at whatever station the ship was stored.

Bed logging for the crew wasn't removed due to combat logging, it was removed because of technical problems with the introduction of PES with regards to bed logging. I remember quite well when they did this in 3.18 PTU and explained why. At first they even removed it completely even for the owner. They needed to make sure, that the ship is streamed into the game before the user is. Later they reintroduced bed logging but only for the owner and only when he is the only person ob board. That is where we are now. The combat logging was then countered by making bedloggin unavailable in a combat situation plus letting the ship inside the game for like 10 minutes or so, after logging out. But I totally agree, that we need to have it come back - best case before Pyro is a thing. And I am pretty sure it will come back. But they need to handle a few problems first. For example, what happens when the last active player is logging out with the ship? Delay or no delay before unstreaming it? But even more important: they have to make sure, that the ship is streaming into the game if ANY crew member will login and that although him probably not being the owner of the ship. And I am only talking about technical issues here, not the permission problem. Here I agree with you, that should be the responsibility of the captain when selecting his crew members. What about rented ships? Owner melting the ship with a full crew on board? For all of that there is an easy solution, but the software has to be developed to detect all of this (you already mentioned differentiating dead/alive, friend/hostile - and just saying all in party are friends is technically not enough as there is no party when people logging off and then on again). So there is a lot to think of and realize the routines necessary before we get this as needed. I think the ship management systems may be a part of the solution. But as always: time will tell. Another commenter here said that Pyro has been slightly retconned to include more fuel stations and whatnot, so - kinda sounds like its headed that direction already.

They need server meshing and before that, the separation of the replication layer to achieve viable bed logging. Other channels are predicting that CIG will release Pyro independently from 4.0. As in you will select what system you want to play in at character creation via the title screen.

Here is my take. Many games have an equivalent of a guild. For squads, set up a system based on who owns the ship being able to establish permissions. Each party member joining gets a disclaimer in the mobiglass of the conditions and rights of the ship and structure while playing. Build in a party disband clause, etc. We could easily have a system that could track legal rights this way and who can and cannot sell things, use loot, etc. Have toggles on certain storage containers for ownership and allow people get to their gear back with a claim for anything in the storage not returned by them within a certain amount of time of leaving the party or a system that automatically sends it back to them. Add it to the legal fees of the player who did not return it or remove it from mission rewards, etc, and track it. The current systems in place are lazy at best and could be refined into a good worthwhile experience. People could search for contracts based on party ship established rules or maybe even allow org rules or player corporations to have rules for ships.

I can't even log off solo in my own Corsair most of the time...for some reason it says I'm in combat and can't log out, even though I am in the middle of nowhere with no enemies even close 😀

For bed logging it should be that the shop stays in verse for like 30 minutes after the last crew members bed logs

the bed logging issue is so simple to fix, make it if the ship is in combat only then noone can bedlog, but they can all other times

They have made it so the system can differentiate between friend and foe on your ship, basically unless you're in the party with the owner you'd be classed as trespassing

oh wow. thats a bit simplistic. When are orgs going to count.... what about tiered access to things based on assigned org rank/role, cargo, weapons, ship systems etc... No internal security systems on ships? like auto turrets. etc...

Bed logging as it currently is will go away as it will be replaced with Quanta and server meshing. If the crew owner logs off, the remaining crew takes over. When the last player logs off, the ship will still persist until the last player logs out. The ship will start a cooldown timer and go from a physical state and into a virtual state when the last player logs off. However if in combat, the ship will persist to prevent players exploiting the system to avoid combat. This will change in the future, but we are still pending some tech before it becomes reality. We've got persistence to some extent with PES, but imo the game isnt at that point yet.

Have they said if they've considered allowing friends etc. to "sleeve" into NPC crew on our ships? Like I might have a dummy AI gunner, and he will help me long enough for a friend to relog on me and make my crew member more big-brained

It's also gonna suck if they can't get the bed logouts to work 100% of the time. I had this happen last night. I say it's not a big deal, but I'm an adult. If I need to log out, I need to logout. If the bed in my Corsair isn't working in Stanton, it takes 5 minutes to get back to a station. In Pyro though? They've had years to get this ready before Pyro's release. Logging out has to be flawless or we're going to waste hours in between Stanton and Pyro and most people will just stop playing.

CIG consern is and always has been, provinding first for PVP single player and pirates above all else. Multi crew is a consern only if it hinders piracy in some way. Otherwise it will remain a low tier priority. Not a consern of mine as I have yet to find any game session that ingenders cooperative game play.

It would be really cool if they made it so your character is still there sleeping on the bed when logged out, that way you can see your crew mates sleeping on board. Just a little immersion QoL I'm sure they will add at some point. Hopefully with Pyro.

If I log out of my kraken, it despawns and everyone else suddenly floats in space, that’s bad. If I log out, log in and can seed a kraken into every new shard every time, that’s also bad. Correct is ofc, to log me into the same server always, but what about friends on a different server and their kraken and crew. That’s design issues that cig can’t solve because Cris can’t make his mind up.

It wasn’t combat logging but PES and replication that caused the issue as how they recreate the nodes back in game changed and as you say they haven’t said when it will be fixed. Definitely an issue for Pyro.

More annoying isn't being able to bed log or buy / sell cargo while having a corpse on board, such as your own corpse you just recovered.

In my opinion I feel like they should get rid of bed logging as a whole and make a way for players to log out where ever they are standing and log back in right there. every other MMO that I can think of does it like that, and we already know they are capable of doing it because thats exactly what crash recovery already does. just my two cents.

It should leave your body in the ship like your in cryo. So if other people board the ship and you've all logged out they go to the habitation and your body is there sleeping.... Realistic..... This is a simulation right....?

Bed logging need to be sorted sooner rather than later. I hope they bring in an org ship join ownership in so we can actually try to live on a ship as a group and not require a certain player to be logged in to continue the Adventure.

We need NPC's we can hire to crew ship stations, even at a minimum turrets to start. The biggest feature of SC is the ships, and what you can do in the universe with the ships. Well multi-crew idea is neat for those who want to do it. Most MMOs prove a solid single player experience is one of the most important factors in a successful game. The idea of having and operating your own ship is number 1 for most, not being a crew memeber of someone elses ship. CIG needs to work on NPC multi-crew if they area going to pump out the huge multi-crew ships and we actually play with them. As you said in the video, its like hurding cats to get multi-crew with IRL people, and I want nothing to do with it.

Video as allways on point. no BS and it should be an "easy fix" we hope... it would bring a lot to the game even without the pyro. Another thing is you can no longer spawn a ship and tell your party member to go to hangar, and leave .... atc listens only to the owner of the ship .

This is the kind of incompetence that I am talking about. Add a basic code condition to prevent logging out while in combat. It's not rocket science. OR, even better, require weapons and shields to be offline to logout. This isn't hard.

I completely agree with you. And I also want to see Insurance become a thing. Insturance could be a massive change to the game as well, no more "oops, I'm out of fuel, backspace" , or making piracy have some consequences besides a new noob suit and a 3k expidite fee.

Knew what this was about from the title and I'm glad you're saying it. To me and my crew, the game has been DEAD since they disabled bed logging. We used to play DAILY because we could setup and just keep going, logging in and picking up where we left off. Since they broke it, we've only played together once :(

Thank god I don't have any friends, and the people I do play with are all just murderers or pirates and have killed as many friendlies as enemies. Knowing the game, I fully expect to have my Carrack get wrecked the instant I jump through by a bored Eclipse pilot.

CIG are showing PYRO at CitizenCon in the best possible light i.e. LAN-gaming. No international ping lag. No choked servers running at 3 fps. No live replication layer lag. What, you think replication layer is gonna come for free? There'll be lag, it's another complex multi-node communication system... this in a game that still can't seem to pre-load the incoming Quantum Travel Destination data.

We've been close to Pyro for 4 years. In 2019, CR announced, "We will have Pyro next year". Content creators such as yourself have been posting videos ever since saying that Pyro is close. The jump points are placeholders. The Pyro sampling scheduled for CitizenCon doesn't necessarily mean anything either. CIG has done that before at CitizenCon years ago, and that sampled content still isn't in the PU. I'm not saying it's definitely not going to happen. But the wiser viewpoint imo is to believe it when you see it in the PU.

The "Multicrew" gameplay requirements will be the Achilles heel of SC. People (with the exception of streamers and KZbinrs) have fewer and fewer friends. And even if you do have friends, the likelihood of them owning Star Citizen or even being online at the same time as you, is very slim. I don't see this ending well.

THey still have NOT done anything about Econimcs we still got a "spawn box" > collect box > sell box = PROFIT gameplay it's utterly pointless playing trade because trade has no VALUE unless you're collecting all the SHIPS which one person + 100 ships = WHY? you can only FLY ONE AT A TIME and some of you don't have friends to even crew the ships so whats the F*K*N* POINT! now i have said Cargo as in resorces NEEd to be used in creating something and the dump of Recosces in to crafting items to make products to sell to R&R and Planets but also gate ships behind crafting system too. BEDS need to be allocated like they are on the HULL C the only bed that logs the whole ship out is the capitants bunk if a player logs out in any crew bunk the crew bunk should just become occupied,. what also would be nice is a way to join a SHIP crew though the menues and instead of the player who logged out in that slot another player could jump in if they are assigned to crew.

I hope they do realise if pyro is a buggy mess beyond playability that the fan base will riot because everyone has been waiting for 5 years for it, I also hoping but not expecting a small "grand opening" event in game where they activate a "mission" to witness the "grand opening" you accept, go to the jump point and watch them activate the jumpgate with animations and sound with an army of the U.E.E around so anyone who comes without the mission gets told "you need an invite, check the mobiglass" like in orison and if you accept youre safe but if you take deadly action youre shown to everyone to kill for a small reward (to avoid potential mass greifing) and the UEE is around so they will be flying with their idris too...But this is CIG I dont think they will do this. Remember WoW ? Everyone waited around the portal.

They could simply remove the bed logging requirement to have your character re-appear where you log out, and exchange it with a buff (or the removal of debuffs that are incurred in the wild). Yes I do realize that some of the more... ahem.. militant fans hate change. This system though, it's full of problems, and even if it does eventually work flawlessly this game needs to make money as a product with the general public. Pledge folks like us, we're a certain group of people. That's easy to forget. The general public, which the game needs to persist, will never accept the whole bed logging or warped back stuff. Just make it so you can't log out in a ship if you're not in the owner's group, but otherwise you're good to go. To be clear, I'm actually into more hardcore game mechanics. But also I'm simply being a realist. I've played online games, MMOs in particular, since the 90's, and this bed logging thing is absolutely going to be rejected by the easy majority of the general public and called a huge regression / step back in time to "save points" or whatever.

simply put if pyro does offer significantly better rewards, then there is no point in going there untill we have our own permanent personal bases/factories . Aaaand NO! CIG nerfing rewards in stanton into the ground doesnt count, I just wont play at all then

Sorry but I disagree. It will be a dampener on multi-crew gameplay in Pyro, but it will be a boost to transport beacon gameplay for Pyro. So until they fix it, it will just shift the focus and the experience somewhat, not outright make it suck.

There are still going to be stations in pyro to make your home and respawn at.. they are just going to be more like grimhex, and have fewer ammemities. But will still be a place to "live" ouf of. Bed logging wont be an issue at all. Your acting like pyro is some wilderness area we will need to have stickpiles of supies to explore.. no.. your just going into the ghetto.. its not even that there wont be fewer gas stations.. they will just be the kind of gas station you might get mugged at.. so treat it like filling up off 8 mile and dequinder. Keep your head on a swivel and dont make yourself look like a target. And maybe skip filling up at 2am.

Ah bed logging, the stupidest bandaid solution.. cig needs to kill bedogging altogether, and change the login/logout process so that our position is saved regardless of how we log out. alt f4 should never be a teleport back to station, we should stay in position. let us log in and out wherever we want.. beds should be flavor, not a requirement.. stuck on a planet surface?? call for a pickup.
