Does turning on lights it nightime affect their circadian rhythm and their glow, and what would happen when you add a dino nutrients to the mix as soon as they are out the bage in a glass.?
@PyroFarms11 ай бұрын
Usually turning on the lights at night will not affect the circadian cycle unless the lights are on for extended periods (hours) for several consecutive nights.

I have a question, how do you start this process? and what products do I need to get so I could start on the right foot?

We have several starter kits at PyroFarms.com. This video shows the GrowPro System which has everything you would need to get started. I recommend the GrowPro System to get started.

is there option to add them to new container with destilled water with added salt so they have lot of space for daughter cells already? if yes, is iodized sea salt bad option for them? what salinity is best for them?
@PyroFarms2 күн бұрын
You can add your own DIY seawater but you can NOT use table salt!! Please use marine salt from an aquarium store or our website. Here is the link to the instructions which has salinity and other saltwater parameters: pyrofarms.com/products/sea-salt-formulation-for-making-artificial-seawater

PyroDinos can live with only daily light for several months. And there have been PyroDino cultures that have lived for over a year with only daily light. However we do recommend occasionally adding fresh seawater (DinoNutrients) for optimized health.
@njjeff2013 жыл бұрын
So you can constantly add as long as you have clean containers…
@PyroFarms3 жыл бұрын
Yes. As long as the container is clean and clear, like a mason jar or empty water bottle, you can populate with PyroDinos.

How much sunlight should it get per day and how often do I feed it if I'm trying to grow into larger containers?
@PyroFarms2 жыл бұрын
For optimal results use a light timer with a LED light or LED light strips. Bright white LED lights work best and colored LED ‘grow lights’ can also be used. LUX: 1000 - 3000 Foot Candle (Fc): 90 - 280 PAR: 90 - 120 EU example: single 800 lumen light (5000K) with reflector: 40cm - 80cm away example: single 800 lumen light (5000K) w/o reflector: 15cm - 30cm away Consistent daily lighting is best and will yield best results. A timer for 12 hours on (day cycle) and 12 hours off (night cycle) is a good starting point for a robust culture. PyroFarms.com to learn more. pyrofarms.com/pages/grow-pro-instructions

Do you guys at pyrofarms add CO2 to your cultures to grow or in bulk? I would like to expand and give friends and family for holiday gifts eventually so I’m going to grow in 5 gallon carboys and want to do it the most sterile and efficient way possible. Will they get enough CO2 from the filtered airline I will provide? Or do you somehow give them another carbon source? Thanks!
@PyroFarms2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Excess airflow and supplemental CO2 is not required. If you grow in a carboy (about half filled) PyroDinos will have a good surface to air ratio which is all they need. We do not recommend adding bubbles. But do cover the carboy, not with a lid but, with an air-permeable membrane.

@@PyroFarms and I know expansion should happen when the culture is dense but was is the way you guys measure your culture density? Do you count a small amount of cells in a small volume and calculate it that way? Could you walk me through calculating cell density? A secchii disk doesn’t seem like a good idea because it could contaminate culture. Thanks
@PyroFarms2 жыл бұрын
@@theaquaticsnailshop5668 We sometimes do cell counts under a stereoscope with hemocytometer but usually just monitor the growth (aggregation) around the meniscus (waterline). As the thin line of PyroDinos starts to thicken around the waterline we know it is time for feeding/expansion. If you do cell counts- look for cell numbers north of 120 cells/ml. This is the feeding zone..
@theaquaticsnailshop56682 жыл бұрын
@@PyroFarms Okay great, so once I see an accumulation of cells at the waterline of my two growpro flasks I can add more dynonutrients and expand? Also, once it’s time to expand would it be possible to add the same volume of dynonutrients that is already in the flask. For example, I have 100ml of culture in my Growpro flask, once it’s time to expand(water line dense with cells) can I add another 100ml of nutrients to flask for a total of 200ml and just repeat that process in the future?

Do you ever get contamination with bacteria, mold, or fungus?

@@PyroFarms can you give a hint as to the nature of the fungicide used in the blue boost food solution for the dinos? I'm trying to make a very large mix for an educational display. Is it copper based? I know you obviously want to maintain your product formula secrecy to protect your business from eg. cheap Chinese knockoffs and so I will delete this question later if you provide an answer.

@@Muonium1 Hi. Sorry but our Nutrient formulation is proprietary to PyroFarms. If you use aseptic technique** and keep your PyroDino culture dense and growing (do not over dilute with dinonutrients/sewater) you should not have a contamination problem. www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/references/gibco-cell-culture-basics/aseptic-technique.html **Note - Just the basics of aseptic technique are required, clean workspace, clean hands and sterile reagents (like DinoNutrients and Blue Boost).

What do you grow these things for...out of curiosity? Just to shake every now & then? Could you put them on one of those light stands that you put stones on and move? I don't understand their purpose. Or why. Not being a troll. I just saw the cool glow and watched the video. I happen to have 1 cockatiel, 2 South American Cichilds (lg Red Devil & lg Peacock) and 3 Labradors...one of each color. Sorry, if my pets shouldn't have been mentioned. 💞😊
@PyroFarms2 жыл бұрын
Its a fair question. Think of a houseplant that lights up a night. These algae or plant plankton grow using daily light like a plant but this 'plant' lights up at night when you move it. So its like a plant-pet that you can take care of during the day (like a houseplant) and it provides natural light at night. And you can put this algae into your favorite glass vase or bottle. There is a whole other side about the air we breathe, the entire ocean food chain and climate change I can dive into but will refrain from right now.
