My absolute favorite fern genus. I grow them in coco fiber baskets and bring them in when temperatures drop below about 22/24f. Some of them are pretty large now, and next spring I will definitely divide them and put some divisions in the stump garden that I made specifically for them. I have always been afraid that I would lose them outside permanently- but this video has convinced me to try it. Of course, I will retain in baskets a large division of each of my 14 varieties in case of any unexpected weather catastrophe here in the PNW

They are definitely hardy to at least 10F in our experience. A stump garden sounds like a great environment for them!

That would be cool..on a board mount

What’s the best liner for these type baskets? Coir allows the fern to grow out the bottom, but the birds (or squirrels?) tear it to shreds

You could add a layer of burlap to protect the coco fiber, or lay out bits of pine bark. Any material that allows the basket to drain and serves as a substrate for the roots will work.

I have these in a basket with an undescribed rhizomatous begonia (Begonia sp. DJHC 98234 from Far Reaches). So far the Pyrrosia haven’t grown through the bottom coir liner.

They will. It looks really cool when they do, but come division time you really have to tear them up. Luckily, that usually takes years before being necessary. I actually have an “Eboshi” in a 20” wire basket ( 28+ plant overall )that has grown through everywhere , including the bottom to the point that no basket is visible. It is about 8 years old and the most beautiful thing I could imagine
