Fished all of Lake Okechobee from the south side to the west,east, and north sides. Also grew up fishing at Loxahatchee Arthur Marshall South and north side. My dad also use to fish at Holliday Park. Love our nature and respect our Alligators. So thank you for catching the Pythons of all sizes. Please say thank you to all that do that works for FWC and the state. It's much appreciated. They eat our Bass as well. So I'm glad your doing this so our Bass get as big as they did years ago. Take care be safe and will keep watching.

That would likely make it harder to grab and hold onto the snakes. He does have the high boots which are where most of the strikes are likely to be the way he catches them. While unpleasant, they don't have super long fangs. Defensive bites are generally chomp and release as they are attempting to get whatever grabbed them to let go. They aren't likely to hold on as they would with their prey. If you can't deal with an occasional bite, you probably don't do this sort of work or even keep them as pets.

Great job cleaning up the invasives! I'm curious, does Florida require that these be taken alive for the bounty? Seems like it would be much more effective (And safer) if you could just pop them in the head first.
@DropShotMLG4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s either euthanasia or re-homing them. It’s 50$ base for a 4 foot python, plus 25$ for every foot in length after 4. So let’s say you catch a 17 foot monster python out there, you’d collect a solid 375$ bounty. Now let’s say you find that snake, and prove that it was guarding a clutch of eggs, then you’ll get an extra 200$ on top of that 375$ for a total of 575$ for one snake. But there’s only ever been 3 pythons captured that grew over 17 feet, so a rarity id imagine😂
@JacobC4794 жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure they have to be brought in alive to get the bounty. I'm pretty sure they study them but also, anybody can go out and bring in a dead python they found. Not really anybody but hopefully you get my point lol.. It proves you actually hunted and caught it. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what I've seen and heard from other videos.

Anyone who has leisurely walked 10 feet in the grassy portion of a swamp knows how much effort that takes. Trapper Mike is probably burning the equivalent of 4000-5000 calories per hour when he goes after one of these Burmese pythons. Add in the adrenaline rush, and the inherent danger that the Everglades poses for multiple reasons, and he *EARNS* every penny of what the state pays him (& the other 99 licensed python hunters) to catch these invasive snakes. The sheer number of Burmese pythons that have been removed from the Everglades since the state started putting a bounty on the snakes, and licensing people to catch them, is astonishing. These men & women have made significant progress in that they have reduced the python population enough that a small increase in some species of native wildlife has occurred.
