ATTENTION PYZEL AND FUTURE! This year I have purchased a Ghost, Phantom, and Gremlin for my travel quiver. I have also purchased Futures JJ-2 Large Tech Flex, HS Quad Rears, and a set of the Legacy Series fins all because of Noel reviews and suggestions on these products. I live in North Alabama and luckily get to take multiple surf trips a year but I don't get easy access to surf shops for suggestions or even to feel the boards in my hands. I go strictly off Noel reviews and suggestions because I trust his opinion and knowledge. He has been accurate on all his reviews and I'm happy with every purchase I've made. I'm leaving this review only to remind the surf industry of his impact to us consumers. PLEASE PAY THIS MAN WHAT HE DESERVES!

I see that you describe the Ghost as a "mini-step up" when people ask you to compare it to the Shadow or other HPSBs, but to me it looks better under your feet than the shadow or other designated HPSBs you've reviewed. would you agree? I see a lot of reviews saying the ghost needs a "bigger or more powerful wave" but you were ripping it like a regular shortboard in medium size waves. Was it harder to surf than the footage makes it look? If you had to choose specifically betwenn the ghost or shadow at your high performance volume and to be ridden in shoulder to a bit over head waves would you really pick the shadow? I noticed it wasn't a favorite.
@dbo45062 жыл бұрын
Go listen to the shaper talk About it. It was designed for powerful hollow waves. But it turned out to be great in a very wide range of surf for a wide variety of things. It excelled in carves which isn’t what he was made for.

Also interested in seeing your question answered. Why didn’t the shadow make it as a personal favorite as opposed to the shadow and phantom ?
@skippywinters2 жыл бұрын
Noel’s response in the Shadow review comment section: The Shadow has more rocker and it needs a steeper wave.... Even the Ghost needs a wave with more power but it’s super easy to surf that’s why it made my favorite list. The Shadow goes good but I want a bit more speed from a HPSB for where I surf.

Although buttery smooth on rail, I also find the the Ghost is a bit slower in smaller waves. I have a 5'10"(my height) and it feels more like a 6'0". A 5'8" would have been a better choice. That said, it works extremely well in larger surf without having a ton foam stretching out in front of you which always feels awkward to me when I step up. Personal Conclusions: buy 1-2 inches smaller than normal dims unless you want to use it as a step-up in your usual dims.
@surfnshowreviews77776 жыл бұрын
Bryan miles Couldn’t agree more... I would love to get a Ghost at 5’7” x 18 3/8 x 2 5/16 in EPS for 2-6’ surf.
@b4ssfunk3d6 жыл бұрын
I hope I made the right choice with my 5'10. I am riding a Klimax Raptor from Peru which is 5'10 x 19 x 2.32 at 26L. My normal board was a wave catching shortboard at 5'8 with about the same volume. I feel like the new board is a tiny bit big for me as I am 5'8 and 155 pounds and maybe could have gone with a 5'9. But I feel like I might eat those same words when I want to surf 6-9 foot waves that will be coming soon to Peru in a few days. In words of a famous surfer, foam can be your friend. It doesn't hurt to have a little more. I am a tube rider more than anything so I probably shouldnt worry about 5'10 being too big when I need a one board quiver for bigger waves too

I am 6'2 190, Gained some weight and for some strange reason have been surfing better. Maybe muscle memory. My question has nothing to do with this ghost board but combining 80s style and something like this. I had a concave tail 80s board that I could lean into a bottom turn and destroy. The board had enough foam and volume to get me into any size wave. The only set back the board had was being almost 3 inches thick. It was a 6'2 x 2 7/8 x 20. Is there a board you have tested that incorporates 80s, 90s rail surfing to something new and progressive? I still have some old school boards that rip but need to experiment with something new. Normally I ride 6'2 x 19 1/4 x 2 5/8. But still miss more foam and volume.

Aloha from the NS…Noel, you rip in the water AND on KZbin! Picture your own home break (we know where it is, but I won’t mention it) maxed out at double overhead with some bigger mysto sets. Put a bit of crowd, ledgy sections, and maybe some slight wonk on it. I find myself in conditions like this very often on the NS and I’m not surfing Pipe or Sunset but a wave that is more in between. To me, it’s not big enough for a gun, not hollow enough for a “taco grinder”, but it’s too much water for a DD or HPSB. Is the Ghost a good option? Others? What boards would you personally ride (models and outlines) and how much volume/length would you personally add in these conditions? Thanks!
@surfnshowreviews77773 жыл бұрын
I suggest the Fever or Shadow as a HPSB when the waves get bigger here in So Cal. The only time I would ride a Ghost is at Blacks, Ocean Beach or waves like that.

I'm an intermediate levell surfer and looking to use the ghost in 6-8ft surf but also when the beachie has good banks (3-5ft+). You reckon I made the right choice? Also looking to progress to less volume as I get better and 33.5L is feeling like quite a lot already. Cheers! Oh I was 150lbs (5ft10)

I'm 5'9" 180 with a 6'3" ghost and it doesn't feel to big. The 6'3 makes an excellent winter board here in Nor Cal where you have to paddle alot. Its one of the best paddling shortboards i've ever been on which helps to get in a little early and the rail holds really well giving you alot of confidence. I've had mine in 3ft-10ft. The 10ft days I felt a bit under gunned where a 6'8" probably would of helped but at that point I would probably spring for the Padillac model. It definitely likes a steeper/punchy wave but still works suprisingly well on the smaller 3/4ft days when i had the wrong board with me.

Hi Noel ! Hope you and your family are good and healthy. Jon said in a video that he created the 6’2 ghost to replace a 6’4 or 6’6 board so with that in mind … a 5,9 (my height) ghost should feel long enough to paddle easy and surf 6-8 ft waves ??? I wouldn’t have to go longer …… right ??
@surfnshowreviews77773 жыл бұрын
It can handle the bigger surf at 5’9” doing big carves and bottom turns. I also like that length for maneuvering the board in the barrel quickly too. However if I were surfing a wave like Sunset or Margret River I might a 6’0”.

Depending on how big the waves are and where you are surfing will determine your answer. If your looking to get in early and have excellent performance in carves then go Pro. If your looking for stability in the barrel with good paddling then Consider the other Ghost options.
