ATTENTION PYZEL AND FUTURE! This year I have purchased a Ghost, Phantom, and Gremlin for my travel quiver. I have also purchased Futures JJ-2 Large Tech Flex, HS Quad Rears, and a set of the Legacy Series fins all because of Noel reviews and suggestions on these products. I live in North Alabama and luckily get to take multiple surf trips a year but I don't get easy access to surf shops for suggestions or even to feel the boards in my hands. I go strictly off Noel reviews and suggestions because I trust his opinion and knowledge. He has been accurate on all his reviews and I'm happy with every purchase I've made. I'm leaving this review only to remind the surf industry of his impact to us consumers. PLEASE PAY THIS MAN WHAT HE DESERVES!

Once again Noel, another board I love after your recommendation, goes unreal in bigger surf and really enjoy as a quad (fcs performers in pc carbon)when the waves are around head height. I've got the stock 6'2", 32.8ltrs I'm 180cm/5ft 11" tall, and weigh 82kg/181pounds.

I see that you describe the Ghost as a "mini-step up" when people ask you to compare it to the Shadow or other HPSBs, but to me it looks better under your feet than the shadow or other designated HPSBs you've reviewed. would you agree? I see a lot of reviews saying the ghost needs a "bigger or more powerful wave" but you were ripping it like a regular shortboard in medium size waves. Was it harder to surf than the footage makes it look? If you had to choose specifically betwenn the ghost or shadow at your high performance volume and to be ridden in shoulder to a bit over head waves would you really pick the shadow? I noticed it wasn't a favorite.

Go listen to the shaper talk About it. It was designed for powerful hollow waves. But it turned out to be great in a very wide range of surf for a wide variety of things. It excelled in carves which isn’t what he was made for.

Noel’s response in the Shadow review comment section: The Shadow has more rocker and it needs a steeper wave.... Even the Ghost needs a wave with more power but it’s super easy to surf that’s why it made my favorite list. The Shadow goes good but I want a bit more speed from a HPSB for where I surf.

Although buttery smooth on rail, I also find the the Ghost is a bit slower in smaller waves. I have a 5'10"(my height) and it feels more like a 6'0". A 5'8" would have been a better choice. That said, it works extremely well in larger surf without having a ton foam stretching out in front of you which always feels awkward to me when I step up. Personal Conclusions: buy 1-2 inches smaller than normal dims unless you want to use it as a step-up in your usual dims.

I hope I made the right choice with my 5'10. I am riding a Klimax Raptor from Peru which is 5'10 x 19 x 2.32 at 26L. My normal board was a wave catching shortboard at 5'8 with about the same volume. I feel like the new board is a tiny bit big for me as I am 5'8 and 155 pounds and maybe could have gone with a 5'9. But I feel like I might eat those same words when I want to surf 6-9 foot waves that will be coming soon to Peru in a few days. In words of a famous surfer, foam can be your friend. It doesn't hurt to have a little more. I am a tube rider more than anything so I probably shouldnt worry about 5'10 being too big when I need a one board quiver for bigger waves too

Hey Noel! Love your show, I really appreciate how you splice in clips of you surfing whatever board/fin you're talking about. I'm a visual learner so it really helps to see exactly what you're talking about when you say terms like 'drive' 'pivot, etc. I've been looking into a new board for shoulder high+, considering a Ghost but also looking at the Short Cut. Have you ridden a short cut? If so, can you briefly touch on the key differences between the SC and the Ghost? Thank you!!

It looked like you had to work a bit harder on the Ghost as apposed to Tomo's SKX.......the SKX felt more lively even in slightly smaller surf. Your back hand cutbacks on the Ghost looked so aggressive and controlled, really nice hold on the turns. Great review as always Noel!

Rome Cheers... I think the SKX looked Spicey too but remember that was EPS too. Way more lively in general but the Ghost rails really settled down nicely on big carves. I think as the waves get bigger the Ghost will shine bright and I will be able to push hard on my turns.

I am 6'2 190, Gained some weight and for some strange reason have been surfing better. Maybe muscle memory. My question has nothing to do with this ghost board but combining 80s style and something like this. I had a concave tail 80s board that I could lean into a bottom turn and destroy. The board had enough foam and volume to get me into any size wave. The only set back the board had was being almost 3 inches thick. It was a 6'2 x 2 7/8 x 20. Is there a board you have tested that incorporates 80s, 90s rail surfing to something new and progressive? I still have some old school boards that rip but need to experiment with something new. Normally I ride 6'2 x 19 1/4 x 2 5/8. But still miss more foam and volume.

What are your thoughts on the XL dims they are doing these in now? Will it make the board less of a step up? I struggle to believe that the board I can get at 6.3 and 36.5litres is as refined and perhaps limited as the original ghosts. I'm looking for a board that's loose and holds to compliment my seaside as a two board quiver surfing west coast of nz so can get a bit of push. Snapped my last locally made new board just recently so back on the ,market and do like the look of ghost xl or shadow xl, it's just hard to know how the xl dims which I will need as I'm 100kg and don't want to ride a 7 footer perform compared to the originals!

I wanted to get a ghost for better winter spots in California on those bigger days and for traveling to good surf. The 6’6 ghost stock dims has a little too much volume for me at 40.1L, and the ghost pro at 6’6 has just slightly too little, 34.4L. I tend to like around 36, do you think a custom would be better or could I get away with the pro, and do you have any ideas on what dims I should tweak if I go the custom route?

Hi Noel. Just checking out your review on the Ghost. Excellent review as always. I have a specific question and wondering your thoughts. The break I am moving to is Zuma, which if you're not familiar, is a pretty steep and closed out beach break, thus I am trying to find a board that will be most suitable for it. I'm 5'11" 180lbs and a fairly decent surfer. I also would like the board to hold up in most other Southern California waves as well. I currently have a Tomo Evo as a grovler, which is plenty fun, but not so good for steeper or bigger waves. Much appreciated.

Yes, maybe go 5’11 or 6’0 Ghost. I think your 5’9” Two Happy and a 5’10” Ghost might have too much overlap. If the Ghost is a step up… maybe go a little longer and up 1-2L. Really just depends how big the waves your going to charge.

Aloha from the NS…Noel, you rip in the water AND on KZbin! Picture your own home break (we know where it is, but I won’t mention it) maxed out at double overhead with some bigger mysto sets. Put a bit of crowd, ledgy sections, and maybe some slight wonk on it. I find myself in conditions like this very often on the NS and I’m not surfing Pipe or Sunset but a wave that is more in between. To me, it’s not big enough for a gun, not hollow enough for a “taco grinder”, but it’s too much water for a DD or HPSB. Is the Ghost a good option? Others? What boards would you personally ride (models and outlines) and how much volume/length would you personally add in these conditions? Thanks!

I'm 5'9" 180 with a 6'3" ghost and it doesn't feel to big. The 6'3 makes an excellent winter board here in Nor Cal where you have to paddle alot. Its one of the best paddling shortboards i've ever been on which helps to get in a little early and the rail holds really well giving you alot of confidence. I've had mine in 3ft-10ft. The 10ft days I felt a bit under gunned where a 6'8" probably would of helped but at that point I would probably spring for the Padillac model. It definitely likes a steeper/punchy wave but still works suprisingly well on the smaller 3/4ft days when i had the wrong board with me.

Depending on how big the waves are and where you are surfing will determine your answer. If your looking to get in early and have excellent performance in carves then go Pro. If your looking for stability in the barrel with good paddling then Consider the other Ghost options.

I've read that it's a good idea to order than inch or two taller than your regular daily driver - would you agree with that?
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 6 жыл бұрын
Nicky Marshall Maybe if you order that to be a step up or a travel board. I would like to order another one for So Cal surf at 5’7” In EPS for a HPSB. It will paddle and surf like a 5’9” but quicker in the pocket.

Great ride, but SO Heavy! It felt so much longer that it's actual size due to the swing weight. It seemed twice the weight of my Slater Gamma.

I'm loving your reviews. Curious if this board compares well to a Lost Mini Driver (which I am surfing right now). Seems like a similar concept of board. Keep up the good work Noel!

How would this go in a 1-3 ft point break
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 5 жыл бұрын
Dylan Mayne Not good... the Ghost needs a wave with some size and power to go good. Check out the Pyzel Gremlin or Astro Pop for 1-3’ point breaks.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 what about slater designs gamma, thanks for the help !
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 5 жыл бұрын
Dylan Mayne No the Gamma is a legit HPSB and best in 3-8’ surf. For 1-3’ shredding I like the CI NB2, JS Air17X, CI Rocket Wide, DHD Wilko F13, Machado Moonbeam. These types of boards have less rocker compared to a HPSB.

Hello Noël, Could you imagine surfing the Ghost in epoxy? I heard John John rides his small ghost in epoxy in smaller waves. In this case, would you change the volume or the board? Would it be made with eps foam too or polyuréthane? Thanks for your advices. I paypal you last month. I receive m'y sea side 5'2 this days and test it 2 times: résolu more perf than go fish without loosing the flow. Thanks

Yannick Haddouche For me the Ghost is more of a mini step up for waves that range 5-10’. I would not want my mini step up boards in EPS.. they are too topical at high speeds and they are a bit harder to control with the chatter too. If your looking for a sick smaller wave board with performance then go with the Phantom in EPS
