@Sylvana Baptista It was snarky sarcasm. But I'll stick with Peterson for now...maybe I'll delve into source material at some point in the future (though I am 57...so not too many good years left). Have you read the books in question? It seems you have not. If not, I would recommend them...in 100 years, Peterson will be mentioned in the same breath as Freud, Jung and Nietzsche...and he's alive now.

As much as I loved and respected JP beforehand it has been his journey back to where he is now from the abyss he found himself in that has been overwhelmingly inspirational for me. He has shown he's not above the disparities of life we seeked his guidance to escape and that he practiced what he preached in fighting his way back to better health. The lengths his family and friends went to in helping him in his recovery particularly his daughter and wife when they were also dealing with their own health issues is testament to his ideal of family values etc.

Personally, Mi-Ra (or Park, please forgive my litteral ignorance on how to properly address someone with an Asian name), I would say that's _sometimes_ true, but certainly not always and not absolutely. Just as an example, in the newest Q&A (released today) at around the 51:00 mark, Dr. Peterson addresses a question similar to _"How can we restore faith in our political systems when they are proving out to be fraudulent?"_ with what I felt to be a great deal of judgmentality towards the asker (more than was warranted in my opinion). His response was along the lines of "You accuse the systems of being fraudulent, but who the hell are _you_ to say they're fraudulent when I can nearly guarantee you that _you_ are personally more fraudulent than they are!" (In greatly simplifying his response of course, please listen and make your own assessment). It struck me as fairly judgemental considering the question being asked, especially since Dr. Peterson essentially didn't give any credence to the idea that our (north America specifically) political system might actually _be_ proving fraudulent. I don't think the asker of this question is out of line *at all* when we live in a world now where our politicians stand in front of TV cameras and lie EVERY SINGLE DAY. And especially when they _know_ they're lying, and _we_ know they're lying, and they know that we know they're lying, and yet it just continues on. I think it was a fair question that was more or less ignored and responded to with "Well, you're not a good person either". My personal opinion is that everyone -- every single human being including Dr. Peterson -- is highly judgemental. But we tend to forgive (or maybe more accurately, ignore or look past) the judgmentality of people we believe to be highly intelligent and thoughtful more than we will forgive the judgementality of people we believe are not those things. Perhaps we consider the judgment of the former to be more valuable to take on board (which it probably is). Just my two cents.

I also was totally unsympathetic to others' losses. So emotionless that I questioned why I didn't cry for example when my grandmother died. Well, it turned out, tragedy needed to hit much closer than that for it to finally break me. Soon enough, my brother drowned, and that broke me. At one point, I found myself shouting involuntarily from the pain of losing someone who I spent my childhood with. After that loss, I was a different person in regards to sympathy for others. Now I literally always shed a tear when a stranger grieves, because I know that pain very well. So trust me, you WILL become sympathetic at some point. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you are at least polite to others' pain. And I'd even go as far to say you should count yourself lucky for not knowing that pain...for now.

Yes, a very good perspective. I was similarly unmoved by others' losses and misfortunes until a young man of 25 I had hoped to form a relationship was killed in a car accident which I survived unscathed. This does not begin to approach the immensity of your loss but it was nevertheless a huge deal to me and it brought home to me how this must have affected his parents and siblings and how very fragile and arbitrary life is. The police would have woken his parents at six one Saturday morning to tell them their beautiful eldest son was dead. Now strangers' bereavements can bring me to tears, increasingly over the 31 years since Nicolas was killed. I still think about him a lot.

They all grew up reasonable and responsible. Sometimes we have to rely on our faith in ourselves. We do what we know we should until the fear subsides, the baby isn't going to break, and we can enjoy the little noises and faces they make and watching their growth. Yet he does it fr the viewer. to etablish a more direct and personal link. and thats just one little detail in a long list of similar behaviors, his phenomenal word choice and completeness of his thought process arent the only things making him such a compelling intellecual. Might i also add that there are so many competent people out there, even many that are on mr. petersons level, but as we have heard and seen them in the JBP podcasts, they are ususally far less interesting to listen to, even those who have interesting stuff to say. Id say its becaus JP puts profound effort into his stage performance while other intellectuals do not.

Still driving himself crazy with binaries/dichotemies/polarities and the attempt to bridge/reconcile them. The fundamental problem is that he tries to force reason into linguistic forms, which are in the end cultural and in that sense relentlessly arbitrary - - or at leat mutable. He fights POMO (as any sane non-nihilist must) but he cannot escape their central message of perspectivism. So he is hoist on his own petard, just as Nietsche was. There is no escape from this. As Nietsche saw, and said (with no satisfaction, BTW) God is dead. Also his reliance on 5-factor behaviourist psychology is very limiting. It is right up there in the Cartesian objectivist/subjectist binary view of reality. It's either madness or "turtles all the way down". This agony is the price of being linguistically clever and articulate. I'd like to see him become a Buddhist rather than a rationalist. Breathe, man. Let it go. 🙏

Being a part of their everyday and offering your love in a safe space teaches both of you to share moments that are enriching character and making a story to add to who they are who they're going to be. Dad with the baby - just give love and respond w compassion every time. Both you and your partner need to support each other 100%. Also, the earplugs thing works!

@@Vention1MGTOW I'm actually at the end stages of a divorce right now, now that you mention it (3.5 year marriage, 8+ year relationship, "I love you but I'm not IN love with you", has another guy living with her within a few months). It is really, really sucky, and what sucks most is that she betrayed and destroyed our family, broke our home, and altered the kids' life forever... but none of that matters when it comes to my relationship with my kids. I can't control what goes on at their moms' house, but when I'm with them, I take care of their needs, discipline and teach them, and show them all the love that I can, just like I always have, and I know that it will pay dividends down the line in their lives and mine too. Will I get married again? Probably not - she pretty much nuked my idealistic, naive view of marriage forever. What is marriage, exactly, if you can stand before God, your family, your friends, and the love of your life, make the most solemn, serious vow possible, then turn around and take a fat steamy dump on all of it on a whim? It's meaningless nonsense.

The story of exodus is facinating. I too grew up in, as JP would call it, a dark place , with overwhelming negativity, where I lacked agency over my life. I decided to move far away where I did not know anyone , be completely self-reliant, so shape my life how I saw fit without outside pressure. It felt like a re-birth. You can only grow up for real when you have the freedom to do so. Like a plant that grows between a rock and a hard place cannot take a shape that comes natural to it -- it has to be shaped to match its environment. Fortunately it took me less than 40 years to come out of it but probably 7-10 years. It would have happened a whole lot faster if I had guidance from someone like JP, whether in person or even just these videos.

I've been in a fair number of physical fights. I'm not a big guy. But I know that I can get the crap kicked out of me and I only get more resilient. This is one of the most reassuring things in my life. Life without struggle and resistance is useless. Yes I am often lazy and weak and soft. But that's not how we should be.

Thank you for doing this. I can see as you continued to share what your knowledge, it can be a bit of a stretch for you. You still keep going. As a person who struggles with building boundaries for myself I have found watching you inspiring. It has helped me to see the value of boundaries for myself. Watching the incremental improvement as you heal has been inspiring. I have been able push myself to be a better caregiver without over doing it and forgetting to care for myself. I still feel a twinge of guilt when I say no to people when I need to, but it dissipates very quickly when I see how efficient I have become taking that time for myself.

Jordan, I've listened to just about every debate interview or book of yours. My favorite are some if the debates, like Sam Harris, the Bible lectures, and some of your old Harvard lectures, but some of the stuff you mentioned here today were among my favorites. Like when you told the man not to fear the baby because he sometimes feels irritated by its crying, that was so wise, I never would've thought of it and it was effortless for you.
