Hi all the guys at MRO. the videos are very useful. These clips are a copy of those made by mustad, which have been around for a long time. The mustad ones are cheaper and you get 25 in a pack.

I haven’t fly-fished for around 50 years, and can remember when we had to painfully tie our own tapered leaders... Using “blood” knots to connect progressively-smaller diameter mono (there were suggested weights and lengths) down to your final diameter. The introduction of factory-made tapered leaders was a godsend. At my age (73), I find SEEING the fine tippet and tiny hook loops difficult enough... Looks like these clips are a must-buy.

At home, he saw on the tv news that on the intersection he was at earlier, there was a huge accident, involving multiple cars, 10 mins after he passed it. If he woulda been there 10 mins later, cause of tying instead of swapping, he would have been in that accident. Idk.. It can LITERALLY save someones life. lol

Brian, You and I had a rather lengthy conversation about these and you didn’t seem to think much of them because you said you had no problem seeing and tying knots. I’m glad you followed up with a video. At the time (8/26/19) the clips would not show up on your website when doing a search. The gentleman I spoke to at MRO said he would try to get it fixed. I’m hoping it has been resolved as I plan to place an order soon. Best Regards, MM

Here in Brazil it's pretty standard to use clips when baitcasting and/or Fly Fishing. Most commonly the lock snaps. It just saves a lot of time, saves your leader and you'll be able to walk around carrying only a small box of flies/lures and a single fishing rod.

Those clips are great for streamers. Tying a loop knot when changing streamers is total pain in the neck. When I started fly fishing (on a budget) I couldn’t afford tapered leaders so at the time most of us made our own by knotting together 30 lb, 15 lb 10lb and 6lb. for instance. Blood knots used are small and hold well. Best way I know of on the cheap. That said you can get tapered leaders these days that are pretty inexpensive.

When I travel to Ontario to fish for trophy smallmouth, there is always the chance my flies may get slammed and stolen by a passing northern pike, so I often use bite wire. To avoid having to constantly re-tie the wire, I set up the wire with a loop at the end with a small cross-lock snap. I used fly snaps the first year and found that the heavy leaders and large fish were pretty rough on them. Most of them ended up at least deformed, if not almost straightened. The cross-locks bore the strain much better.

I'm very new to fly fishing. Definitely use your channel as my main teacher. The fly clips are sort of equivalent to the snap swivels for easy change out on spinner lures on spin reels. They save a ton of time but I find the snap swivels really mess with the presentation of the spinner so don't use them. I'm wondering if the fly clip also can mess with or alter the presentation of the fly when you do stripping? I love the time saver but curious if the fly clips hinders the fly presentation. Thank you.

Tying your own leaders opens up the possibility for customization! To help me see where my cast is going, I like to tie in a yellow mid section (Stren’s Hi Vis Gold). It also helps me detect bites. I imagine you could also use Zebco’s Cajun Red for visibility in different lighting conditions. Some species might be scared away by bright colors, but I suspect that panfish like bluegills and crappie might even be attracted to some colors of line.

I use 5x for river trout and this seeems like a great solution for quick changes. What size would you recommend for dry flies for trout? Or is this more of a sinker only application?

Just watched this video and was curious if you had a way to save tippet and leader lengths when you are fishing size 20 and 24 flies like we use on the gold medal parts of the San Juan river. These giant trout see so many flies all day long the bigger stuff does not work! Thanks!!

Saw the clips on wish app and was sure it was a junk scam no way iit would work. But after your video i think I will give the official Rio clips a try because i fish for bass in lakes and towards the evening it gets hard to see to tie new flys on. Thanks for the review.

I've come from a regular fishing background and I just decided to put a regular swivel clip (is that what they're called?) on. Is that basically the same thing? Should I get ones made for fly fishing?

Not sure what a swivel clip is but if it works, don't see where you need to buy anything special. Feel free to call the folks at the shop though if any further questions or need further clarification.

Because I severe arthritis in my hands I have trouble tying knots. These sound great but what about for trout. I live in Virginia and don’t get many opportunities to trout fish unless I go back to my home state of Colorado. Also are these okay for droppers such as a nymph under a dry fly. I’ve had guided trips and it’s usually a good size caddis with a nymph on a dropper.

Would these clips work with steelhead flies? Especially because they almost act as a loop knot? Only ask because this time of year, its super cold on the river and would be nice.

can you get flies that can catch live bait like sardines for a spin rod? And what size hook and popper would you recommend for a fish called whiting in Australia? Dunno if you have them there, normal hook size would probably be a 4 circle hook. They have smaller mouths and like prawns. And what size tippet and leader for a 6wt for whiting? Thanks

How small of a fly size would you suggest these are limited to. I've been thinking about these for a while but I've been torn on how small of a fly I could go down to before these would be a hindrance on the fly effectiveness. I'm thinking I could still have an effective fly to maybe down to a size 14 or so, but on a midge it probably wouldn't be a good idea. Thoughts?
