Thanks for another great video! I’m an Aussie adult student doing a grad. dip in psychology online while living overseas. I don’t have any other students to talk to, so it’s pretty isolating to be honest, but your videos always make me feel better about my future as a psychologist!

Love the content! Thanks for sharing those informative information and first hand experience being a clinical psychologist! And yes I’d definitely love to join the live stream 🥰 I’m from Taiwan but currently studying in Usyd remotely so I’m quite used to the Australian time lol so no worries! My only concern is that if you decided to do it on weekdays i might not be able to attend if it clashes with my lectures/tutes:/ If you could probably record the live stream and upload it afterwards that’d be lovely! Just a little suggestion:’) Thanks for the great videos again! ❤️

I'm doing a bachelor of Psychological Science, our cohort did a personality test in first year and over 85% students scored for high introversion. So yeah! Introverts can make great psychologists as many are incredibly good listeners and deep thinkers!

Hi love your content! 17:44 1000-1200 applications but only 10-20 spaces? That sounds so daunting... What mark range do you think is necessary to have a chance? And how hard is honours compared to undergrad for e.g. if you get low 80s in undergrad, is it reasonable to expect similar marks in honours?

Hi Roanna, loved your video as always! I’m thinking of changing profession from a high school teacher to a psychologist. I only have 2 years to stay in Australia, have had 0 psych training and don’t even speak English as my first language, so there are definitely some concerns hovering over my head. But unfortunately this is the only profession I’ve ever truly loved so… gotta take a grad diploma and go down this path anyway. I don’t even know what kind of advice I’m seeking from you right now by writing all this. Guess I’m just feeling a little scared n vulnerable. Anyway, thanks for offering your wonderful insights on psychology n the work of a psychologist. Hopefully I’ll be able to do what you’re doing now one day.

i have a question. i recently had this experience btw. So I went to visit my family and the people i stayed with, i used to live with when i was around 2-3 and my when i say hi to my aunts husband i got a weird vibe, and it made me feel like maybe he had done something to me yk. And then when they were telling me stories it seemed like i was really close with him and he was super attached to me to the point where when my mom took me away from them he apparently cried and was depressed. And also notice he was also very close with one his daughters baby girl. I don’t know why i would get the feeling of maybe he had done something to me since i don’t remember but i did notice i kept my distance from him compared to everyone else ( btw i’ve never really seen any of them other than small conversation every 3 years or so this was the first time i’ve lived with them for a week and i hadn’t seen him since i was like 2) but ya I just wanted to know why i felt like this if i don’t remember ever being sexually abused or touched but he made me feel like i was.

Your videos are great! I'm Aussie too. I have a question about people with personal experience of mental illness becoming psychologists, is it weird? common? did other students or teachers talk about it during your studies? (Obvs you don't have to share your own experience if that's too personal - but what do you know generally of those with lived experience working in psych?) I consider going back to uni for psychology (I have a non-psych Bachelors) but worry I'm not suited because I still struggle with depression, although I've been in therapy for basically half my life and recovered from social anxiety disorder at least. Alternatively I'm looking into peer work and support work in mental health to help others without the huge undertaking and responsibility of psychology.
@thepsychdiaries
@thepsychdiaries 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kev! Definitely chat to a supervisor but if we excluded all people who have lived experience of mental ill health from practising we would have very few psychologists (me included). I think it's just important to consider capacity and whether it will be too draining or which path suits you in terms of interest as well- is it actually carrying out therapy or are you more interesting in playing a peer support role to help people in a more practical way or are you really into the research? Either way it's definitely not weird!

Hi Bhakti! Unfortunately I'm not aware of the pay scales for various professions however I would reocmmend you google "health professionals state award" which gives you an idea of what Australian hospitals would pay. :) Otherwise reach out to the uni you will do the masters in and they should be able to help!
