This has occurred mostly with official state patronage. As a result, any attempts to correct this course has been virulently opposed with the result that most urban-educated Indians have now internalized a politically correct version of Indian history.
The history of Tipu Sultan too, stands as a glaring instance of this distorted historical narrative. Indeed, we have seen, read, and heard about a lot of people claiming to be freedom fighters and receiving pensions from the Government. Several of these worthies would not have been born before Independence yet they succeed in such blatant manipulations. Tipu Sultan is widely known as the Tiger of Mysore. Indeed, the image of Tipu battling a tiger barehanded crosses the mind whenever his name is mentioned. But is this the truth? Was Tipu Sultan truly the freedom fighter as he has been portrayed? What exactly is his record of fighting the British? Was he really a freedom fighter as is widely claimed? This lecture answers these questions and exposes numerous other such myths.
About Speaker:
Sandeep Balakrishna is a veteran writer, author, editor, speaker, columnist and independent researcher for about 20 years writing on Indian Philosophy, Literature, Indian History, Temples, and Indian Culture. I wish to add something to this, I'm from Malabar Kerala, there is a place with name Sultan battery which is in Wayanad known all over India now because Rahul Gandhis lok sabha seat is Wayanad. The place which is called Sultan's battery had a name which was ganapathy vattam. When tipu started conquer Malabar he destroyed the Hindu and Jain temple located in Ganapathi vattam and all those temples used as his store House of his weapons and it was the place they slaughtered animals and made food. So this place become Sultan's battery that name given by British. My village is just below the Wayanad hills and it was the second camp of Tipu where we had a village surrounded by 101 temples. Tipu destroyed almost all of them and now so called leftist historians tell that there is no proof to prove that Tipu destroyed the temples but British destroyed the temples. They using the letters written by Raja asking local landlord to unite to protect the temples as letters written to fight against British. In my history class we studied Tipu as a patriot fought war against British but our local tradition and history tells us a completely different story.

Tipu Sultan was attacked from behind by the British soldiers who hid in Sultan's Seringapatnam fort with the help of a traitor who happened to be Sultan's own general Mir Sadik. He was in an immoral deal with the British to take over the rule from the Sultan! Lakshmana a Kannadiga, peasant turned soldier who was engaged in recruiting soldiers to the Sultan's army just happened to be there immediately realised as to what was happening and by sacrificing his own life avenged for the Sultan's death by slitting the throat of Mir Sadiq at the same spot where the Sutan fell dead! I am from malabar muslim family after reading so many papers of land and properties owned by my ancestors i understand that those properties are belonged to the females not the muslim males and the females were converted not males. this is the same thing happened in arakkal family also which was a small muslim kingdom in north kerala . Arakkal beevi was an hindu girl daughter of king of chirakkal . When she was drowning in a water a muslim or mappila saved her life as far as touching is ayitham at that time which muslims are considered as lower cast . They married each other. Like wise there are several marriage happened in kerala even though the court had not considered malabar muslims as real muslims . Because most mappila are involved in other things which are similar rituals in hindu religion and not permitted in islam (like considering thangal decedent's of prophet muhammed as more than normal man, involving in whichcraft, building jaaram as sufis. The King of Sultanate Khuda Addad (God given Kingdom), Tipu Sultan was interested in attacking the Kingdom of Travancore, which is now Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. The place is still Lord Pathmanabha Swami's coz King Marthanda varma dedicated the Kingdom to the God, which was called Thrippadi Daanam.
