So someone help me understand this. You take your hard earned money buy a ticket that is unfair to whom? It's known that people lose more than they gain when it comes to buying a lottery ticket. So when you win its fair to keep half of it atleast and give away half. Plus do alot of good deeds with the portion you keep. We also know as muslim if you win its because Allah decided it was your time to win it. I believe if your heart is in a good place and you do great deeds, when it is all said and done the rewards will prevail at some points.

yes because its the same concept as buying a lottery ticket. unfair exchange where one person can win while all others who paid lose. honestly its safer to just stay away from all types of "win!" or "lucky" draws, whatever the prize. however i dont think this exactly applies to say a carnival or fun-fair. where you pay, do an activity (like shoot targets, hoops, etc) and can win different prizes, because that would be more dependent on your level of skill as opposed to sheer luck. And whatever you win, doesnt directly affect another player/customer, if that makes sense?

To win a lottery you hvae to take money from others or someone else has to lose. Someone once told me investment is lottery but it isnt because its business aswell as the fact people arent losing out. The buy a product and you get profit. Win-win situation. Even if its expensive its still something beneficial.

Except people do lose out on investment in the stock market. People have lost millions. If there weren’t people losing money on what they call ‘investment’ in a business thousands would not have committed suicide when markets collapse. It quite literally is gambling and simply hoping that what you bought your piece of paper for that says you own part of that business will be worth more later and hoping it won’t be worth less later.

That's Investing. You put money on your own business, and it may go well or not. With stock market you are investing on someone else's business. Trading is halal. Stock market is same as trading. Now, the fact that the stock market trading rules may not be fair and so on, is a different story.

Well the one who wins does not win all the money. How do you think those who run lottery get rich? Everybody that participates in lottery is hoping to win and therefore all of them are gambling. The game is a trick were all accept to loose by being promised a chance to win something great. Nobody is giving away their money as charity for a good cause. In charity people give away their money without expecting any money back. In this case there is no gamling nor fooling around. Expectation and purpose in these two cases are totaly different. The distinction between the charity and lottery is very clear indeed. The two are not even comparable. It is important to say that it is not sufficient to have a concensus on a issue for it to be deemed good!

I think Muslim scholars are lazy and blanket interpret things without context. If the intention behind winning is to do charity, it couldn’t be a sin. If uncertainty is the main criteria then debt instruments are as halal as you can get coz you know for sure you will get this much for these Many years but that’s even more haram. Muslims have fought wars (which is clearly more destructive ) to spread the message and that was not a sin. Sometimes Allah allows haram as halal because it’s the intention that matters.Allah knows best.
