Hi! thanks for the video. I'm planning to apply to Oxford to study Fine Art in 2024 and have heard that all interviews for Oxford will take place online via Zoom. Would you have any advice for anyone having an interview online, since they are different to the in-person ones?

You have such an amazing personality, you seem so kind. Thank you so much for this video. I am currently 15 years old and I have never taken any art course... Art is my life, I am very passionate so I feel like if I put enough effort to acquire artistic skills it might be possible for me to apply :) Do you think it is possible to be accepted even though I've never taken any art course ? And Is there an average age for the people who apply ? You made me feel confident, you are so inspiring :D

Hi Yvona, we'll ask our ambassador and get back to you, but in the meantime you can take a look at our subject specific resource pack, made in collaboration with Magdalen College, where there are lots of suggestions listed under History of Art/Fine Art on page 25 that you might find useful. seh.ac/resourcepack

That's a good question Siha, and we'll pass it on to Helena for you! We'll comment here as soon as we hear back from her.

Here is Helena's response: I would say before going into Y13 that you should go to as many exhibitions as you can (they don’t have to be far away, you can visit your local galleries or can be online exhibitions) and just make art and experiment. I did a foundation so I can only comment that from Y13 to Foundation I looked at all of my recent work and started to develop my own style and progress from A level. Just get really involved in your work and pin down why you make what you do and what drives you to make art - this will really help in your application. Hope that helps!

There’s a fine line between educational PTSD and genuine artistic talent. Art was used a ps a form of therapy in insane asylums in the C19th. Many top artists like Picasso would slip the guards a few coins to take a peep at what the inmates where doing. The abstract expressionism was seen by psychiatrists as a window into the patients mind. Young people who stay upstairs in their bedrooms drawing and writing poetry, need to make sure that they have genuine marketable talent before embarking on an Art course and aren’t just finding solace in an autodidactic activity which is the equivalent of a five year old sulking and sucking its thumb.

So, your resulting conclusion? I assume you are exposing the idea that you need to not simply be passionate about the art form, but rather, immersed in art itself, experimenting, visinting galleries etc. Or do you mean otherwise?

Thank you a lot for this Quick question1:what kind of tests did you have to take? Like did you have to do a math test? Quick question 2:can you continue until like your 30 Or more? Quick question 3:do you choose you college or do they choose it for you?

Hi there! In answer to your questions: 1. There is no admissions test for Fine Art, however you do need to submit a portfolio of work as part of your application. More information at www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses-listing/fine-art#content-tab--3 2. There is no age limit on applying to or studying at Oxford. The BFA Fine Art degree is three years long and so except in cases of extenuating circumstances, you would be expected to complete the degree in three years. 3. It's up to you! You can make a college preference when you apply, or you can make an Open Application and you will be assigned a college. Hope that helps!
