Samixa Shah, a retired pharmacist and wellbeing coach, was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in May 2012. She had always made self-care and wellbeing a priority in her life and this became even more important after the cancer diagnosis.
Samixa used her coaching skills to help manage her wellbeing during treatment. Samixa went back to work as a wellbeing coach on a phased
return after 7 months. She completed her diploma in Wellness Coaching Skills and continued to work until the end of 2014.
In this Q&A interview, we put our community's questions to Samixa:
Why is self-care so important for those diagnosed and those supporting someone diagnosed?
What are three simple steps someone can take to enhance their self-care?
Are habits and routines an important part of self-care?
What are some common obstacles people face when they are trying to look after their wellbeing after diagnosis?
