As I was want to say when the promos and trailers heralded Q's return as an old enemy returns that I wouldn't go as far as to say enemy but more giant cosmic pain in the ass. @SkylerModder

@@garysprandel1817 Indeed, and honestly that was always the sense I got out of Q in the earlier shows. He was cosmically arrogant about it, certainly, as you'd expect a god-being to be, but he was always trying to help you out - improve your knowledge and understanding, teach you something important, help you realize your potential. If he hadn't interjected time and again Humanity would've been nothing but a tiny splattered bug on the windshield of the intergalactic freight train that is The Borg. And once again, he saves them all, but this time he not only manages to save Humanity he also saves the god damn Borg themselves - giving them the chance to become a benevolent ally instead of an eternal enemy, and all at the cost of what little time and energy he had left in that reality. It doesn't get any more badass than that. I'm gonna fucking miss this Q. ;_;

Perhaps that's what attracted Q to humans Their ultimate ability to love beyond the circumstances, beyond the wrong doing done to them, humans have the ability for not just sympathy but empathy and love When one is omnipotent, you can not be empathetic and love all at the same time. I think Q admired this in humans, and, over the years and encounters, he constantly tested it for its genuineness and, at the end, concluded that that trait surpassed even omnipotence itself

That's the one thing people never really understood about Q in TNG. While he started out as an "angry god", he turned into the "trickster god", then into the "observant god", then into the "loving God" and.finay into the "older brother" that would never let Picard be hurt, while allowing Picard keeping his own free will intact. This evolution was easily seen in the TNG. Especially with the fact that when Q was turned human he chose to be exiled with Picard. And this was a heart breaking and very human portrayal of Q basically becoming the best of what he observed from humans and in particular Picard. This entire ruse this season has basically been A dying and trying to tell Picard he loved him but couldn't do so because he didn't know how, and he was obviously afraid of rejection. The most heartwarming scene was to see Picard hug Q and Q's fear of rejection was dismissed. This was the final evolution of Q in this form as he became "God is love" and went into the next life being fulfilled in this existence. As Q said in TNG, the Continuum was afraid that one day humans would surpass them. in the end Q realized that even as God like beings, they were ultimately missing the one thing that made frail imperfect childish human beings superior to them: the ability to love unconditionally and freely. I wonder if Q will be able to watch and help Picard from his next existence? But I hope they don't resurrect him. This is the perfect ending for Q, and as in was one of the old TNG episodes, when Picard finally dies I hope Q is there to welcome him. This was an incredible sci-fi episode that turned sci-fi on its head and changed the rules showing that no.matyer how high tech we are, humans are still innately the same throughout their history for good or bad.

JDL was very pleased and grateful but we kind of figured that he probably gets tons of little things like that and most likely would get tossed as what's the guy going to do rent out a warehouse for storage of all those fan gifts? Maybe so but apparently he really did like the button because at least from con appearances and photos of con appearances over the next couple of years it must have been part of his con go bag as he was wearing the button.

And most people miss the point.... just like this series . The question posed by Picard in STTNG to Q was a question to humanity (us),to ask the question why the devine, whats the point ? A being that can just snap his fingers and change everything voids the very point of existance. We must grow beyond outdated concepts , but we are not ready for this. .If there are beings like Q around ... well, we are not even ready to play nice with ourselves as a species, so in any event ,for both outcomes... God or not... we are not ready for either. Thats the point being made then... What this was ?... other than garbage... I have no idea. And thats a shame.

It is a bit of a shame that John de Lancie didn't get a more prominent role in the season. His acting is so convincing and he plays the part with so much depth. Generally, the more powerful a character is, the less interesting they are as the power they wield makes them less relatable and generally boring. Q is literally omnipotent and yet he was given so much nuance and character with good writing and perfect casting. Every scene that featured Q was the highlight of the episode that hosted it.

First time I’ve felt something from this show besides disappointment. I thought Q and Picard’s last words were beautifully sad, especially thinking about how long ago TNG was, and feeling like everything from our childhood is fading away. The reason for anyone to cry would be because of the utter awfulness of this; the two dimensional characters, the dreadful acting, the awful story line, the narcissism...and why that means we've lost something truly valuable. So the future is now supposed to be a wokeverse? No thanks. TNG was a good series this isn't even close with its virtue signalling, shallow and forgettable BS.

@@preoccupied4800 What exactly is "woke" here? All I hear from you is negative criticism on the series, which you are entitled to your opinion. Here's a tip: you don't like the series then you can easily turn your attention elsewhere. All you are doing is promoting hate and disgust with your words but understand most people are not affected by it. No, this series isn't as great as Star Trek The Next Generation but who says it is supposed to be. It is merely a continuation of specific characters and his/her stories. Not your cup of tea? Feel free to flip the channel and stop using the word "woke" (the term is basically by definition waking up from sleeping) to excuse your motive for being miserable about something you have no interest in.
@preoccupied4800

@@b.y.o.p.9035 "All you are doing is promoting hate and disgust with your words..." don't be ridiculous. As someone who has enjoyed every iteration of Star Trek since the original up to Enterprise I was delighted to hear that a new series was being made...that was until I saw it and saw what was going on (with this as well as Discovery, etc). The frustration and rejection of this offering by me and thousands of others is because we are appalled at the selling out. Why do we care? Because it has been taken over by political activists with their particular form of agenda led politics, therefore it panders to their issues and promotes their messaging. I don't want that being smuggled so overtly into anything I watch. I have an interest in the genre and I care about the show as it used to be before it was ruined by virtue signalling. We want the interesting, intriguing, mysterious imagining and sense of wonder back. This is none of these things.It's a hollow shell of a show now because it's a highjacked framework promoting an agenda. They thought it would make more money and power/fame for its awful auteurs but the previous fans have spotted it, so we've walked away in disgust. That alone should answer your question and also tell the studio something: why do so many people hate the show now? In 50 years of Trek it's always been received well. Not now. So if you like it that's great, I'm happy for you and it means they've got a few fans anyway. Oh and if "woke" by your definition is about "waking up" then you misunderstand the term in its proximate use; it now represents agenda led politics as well as wider activism and the covert pushing of this into mainstream media. Disney was caught red handed doing this after its the execs were heard on a Zoom call discussing how they smuggle their agendas into their children's programming. This is the same and that is what i was referring to and what I'll continue to criticise.

@@preoccupied4800 Things are changing. Its different than what it was before and nothing ever truly remains the same. My original statement was about characters and people in general coming together. You responded with such disgust that, to me, was directed solely towards my comment because I mentioned a reason to cry. You degraded the series by calling it "shallow and forgettable BS". Its your opinion, but remember not everyone shares your thoughts. When you come into a comment section aggressively posting as you did, know that others may think that it can be labeled as a "hate speech". Its fine if you don't like or appreciate something, but letting your frustration out over the internet to random strangers just seems immature and threatening. For the record, whatever it is that you see as "woke" in this is mostly irrelevant. Its your opinion, and you are welcome to flip the channel as I said before. No, I don't think I was being "ridiculous" when I said you were promoting "hate and disgust". I just felt that you have much animosity towards the show. If thats true, they are better shows for you. Of course, I think you know that already. I'm just here for the characters and stories. Just to see where they go from here.

@@preoccupied4800Bruh, even TNG was virtue signally af. You just happened to not notice it, or agree with it Star Trek is and has been a franchise that features futuristic stories in which characters live in a diverse galaxy where people get along or rival each other. Few of the main races are portrayed as inherently bad, and many that do ends up developing into a group or character that has a deeper reason or simmers their rivalry. It’s pushed desegregation before the real world considered it not controversial. First interracial kiss, and there was genuine racial backlash against it. I think this show looks cheesier, probably due to the cameras being too good, different genre of soundtrack, and different (not good) script, but it’s not the first or last Star Trek accused of being virtue signaling or “leftist” Like obviously it’s a liberal show, but the franchise has always been liberal. Q dying is simply him not being able to move forward in time at the moment he sends Picard and his crew back to the original timeline. What he was really doing was trying to help humanity, and Picard in particular, explore the boundaries of existence and evolution, as he said at the end of "All Good Things...," the series finale for TNG. To a godlike entity, the concepts of good and evil are relative in the grand scheme of things. Only mortals such as humans try to categorize things and people into good and evil terms. But personally, I hope this is not truly an end for Q, but an evolution into a plane of existence even higher than that of the Q Continuum. The way that the final two scenes with Q wrapped everything up with a nice tidy bow. Looking back on their relationship, Q did always protect Picard in his own way, even introducing him to the Borg early to give the Federation a head start in learning how to survive.

Yup, if the Borg suddenly showed up in full force, which they likely would have in the future, the Federation would've got waxed. It was good to get an example of what they could do.

After everything Q has done to the enterprise and the crew, especially Jean Luc, that hug wasn't just a farewell hug, it was a hug for a friend.

only world-class actors of this magnitude can pull this off. The actors use their chemistry and class to create this magical moment for their characters. It would be the last time their share a scene, and both gave 100%.

The soundtrack to this beautiful moment though... Just wow. I have never thought of Q as a villain, he was mischievous, even rebellious, but (I think) never a bad guy in the typical sense. And John de Lancie owns this scene. I really hope this isn't the last of Q. Even if he returns at some point in the Star Trek Picard novels, I'll be happy.

John De Lancie, bravo, sir. A poignant and fitting farewell from one of the greatest characters in Star Trek history. To all things an end must come, even gods. Q, you were magnificent. “See you out there.”

I grew up on st tng and while I don't love st Picard, this scene legit brings up tears. Patrick and john made this scene have serious emotion,between the lines, the eyes, the motions. Well done

My theory is that we actually saw Qs last moments as I think the that thing the brog queen was trying to protect everyone from was Q dying and infacy from Qs point of view picard and him hugging was his last moments as his death was happening in real time well relative to picards view of time.
