I spent most of my childhood (80’s and 90’s) in one of tho’s with my grandad, great days they were. DDF-827Y. it was a roadtrain 16.29 day cab artic 290 cummins, spicer box and tipping gear inside the cab as it was on bulk work mainly, low loader and Gen haulage when not. Never thought I’d see inside one of those again so thanks for the upload. :)

Very good double de clutching pretty slick driving. Only thing with the splitter so much leg work. Preferred the Eaton Fuller range change in my brothers Constructor far less bother. Leyland made very good trucks back in the day. Non assisted clutch needed a left leg like Arnie😁❤

I always like the Leylands, bar the ride quality. Everything else was just so functional and made for the job.

Loved my constructor mixer and 10 speed spicer set up, pre-select high or low ready for the next gear and just dip the clutch and so it continued, micro switch used to wear and the air filter on the box used to clog up which would delay gear selection sometimes🙈

I've been lucky enough to drive a few T45's , day cab,sleeper cab and a couple of Scammell versions. Build quality wasn't the best but they were very nice to drive and the mattress was comfortable in the sleeper cabs.

SYT/ First Mainline Dennis Dominators had the same engine and would make mince meat out of Sheffield's terrain. The oldest ones were 25 yrs old when they got withdrawn and quite a few have made it into preservation. A logistics firm near me also had a fleet of Roadtrains as well the same engine.

Do you need to clutch for the splitter change ? .. Nice to have a ride with a Roadtrain Leyland.. never seen one inside before.
@BristolVRchap5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, you need to dip the clutch as there is a microswitch which selects high or low range when the clutch is dipped.
@neilstewart20363 жыл бұрын
Possibly thinking of the later Eaton twin splitter didn’t need clutch for splitter change on them

Beacuse the NWO and the EU Pidos shifted everything to China, having been bought by China who gave them kickbacks for their buggering of young ones, who they send in Evergreen Containers and Maersk. All overseen by Thatcher, Blair, and Soros. And it's still going on with Mr. Floppy PM.

Cummins could not supply a engine over 290 Leyland had one on the books but the development would cost to much they was a good motor but they used to bounce bad the reduction hub on the rear axle would pull anything it was the upgrade from the marathon
