As someone who went through QA and now senior SDET. The role of QA in the agile landscape is quite hard to place. There doesn't seem to be time for true testing cycles, but also most QA skillsets don't inherently have the skills to do it next to an engineer. I really think the only way is to upskill and work closer to engineering an have to become somewhat of an engineer yourself.

I'm not sure if the role of QA will still exist in the future, or if it will morph into something else. Functional testing is more and more replaced by automation, and engineering skills are indeed what's being valued.
