She wasn't jealous, only i could see that she just craving for her mother's love and appreciation. If her mother recognised her just the way she is, she definitely wouldn't have taken that evil step.

@@SafavidAfsharid3197 I agree. Being treated badly is no excuse for treating someone else badly. No matter how broken, she had no right or excuse to do what she did to him. Not to say Qala wasn't traumatised, but that doesn't justify what she did.

I have alot to say about this movie, first of all just go and watch it without a single thought. This movie has it all. Music and the aesthetics are my fav , but the story, each and every person acting, the costume, the visuals. I never like a song without listening to it twice or thrice but I literally got in love with every song within the first listen. My fav scene is the boat scene where they were singing under the moonlight. The serenity🌺 What a great movie.

I can relate to this movie because I've felt that craving for love from my mother. When she acted lovingly to other children but not me, it made me hella jealous. The limits Qala was ready to go to just for her mother's validation are understandable. It reminds me of the quote 'Hurt People Hurt people'. My mother also had unhealed childhood trauma so I've forgiven her now for her behavior in the past. Won't let it repeat for my children.

Same. But Indian audience is trying to put morality into this and say that qala should have accepted her mother as she was even when she wanted to throw her away. So typical of Indian audience to look at art from the narrow lens of Indian right wing morality.

SPOILERS BELOW: The movie was absolutely heartbreaking. I loved every second of it and yet I cannot stop thinking that the movie wronged Qala just as much as the characters did. Throughout the movie, Qala was a victim. She was fragile, dependent, and yearning for love from the one person who would never be able to love her. She was abused, ignored, sexually exploited. And yet she rose above her circumstances and shone brighter than the pole star. She became a hero; a feminist in her own right. Then, why was it that, in the end, SHE was the one to pay the price? Why did nobody else pay the price for hurting her? Why did nobody else suffer for how insufferable they were? She was a victim all her life, nobody ever helped her. And when she'd dealt with all the demons herself, finally achieving what she'd been striving for, she kills herself? Granted what she had done to Jagan was horrible, but she was a child and desperate and didn't know any better. Nobody had taught her any better. You cannot deprive a child of empathy all her life and then suddenly expect her to turn out to be the most empathetic soul of all. It was as if Qala was *punished* for being so ambitious. But nobody else was punished for doing much worse to Qala than what Qala had done to Jagan or anybody. Not the mother, not that director/producer. It was Qala alone who suffered. She didn't deserve that ending, no. I think the movie failed her character just like all the other characters failed her. This movie definitely makes a statement on mental health. But it seems to also make a statement on ambitious women and how they should "keep their ambitions in check". And it breaks my heart all the more because I know that was not how the movie had intended it at all.

I do agree to the fact that qala was a victim. Some times instead of revolutionising everything or sparking a rebellion by nitpicking learn to appreciate the melancholy and subtle message conveyed by the movie.Qala is one of the best female centric movies that i liked in recent years. Not every other movie needs to potray feminine triumph and aggresive feminism. Its getting too stale and repeatitive to the point of irritation.Let Qala be a movie about beautiful representation of female mind ,with all its flaws and uncomfortable nuances that it potrays perfectly. This movie needs to be analysed at a much deeper level.

@@prithwirajchakraborty6157 "This movie needs to be analysed at a much deeper level." - That's exactly what I'm doing. At the surface, this movie delivers an impeccable message on mental health and how it is ignored and how such ignorance may bear drastic consequences. But at a deeper level, it can be interpreted in multiple ways. For example, the movie can also be examined in the light of child abuse, casting couch, feminism, and matriarchy within a patriarchy. A movie (or absolutely any piece of art) cannot just have one meaning or Interpretation. I've already said I loved every part of the movie, but that doesn’t mean I have to find it absolutely perfect. Maybe to you, it's "aggressive feminism" (whatever that may be), but to me, it is just "people not being punished for their ambition". Maybe to you, it's "nitpicking", but to me, it's "relating to the story and feeling it at a deeper level". Anyway, you're totally entitled to your opinion but that shouldn't make you want to dismantle mine. That's something you might consider "learning" as well, I believe.

See the director wanted us to feel her guilt and pain and i do agree to what you mentioned regarding abuse ,sexual exploitation.Yes she was punished for being ambitious but it would have been too mainstream,if she was shown "surviving against all odds." The movie passes on a really poignant message and makes even men think about it considering a much larger social context, without being loud. That's why it succeeds at every level.

@@prithwirajchakraborty6157 you sure you are talking about indian movie industry. Cause definitely movie related to "all rounder hero" is still more than "agressive feminism" and i appreciate it shows the mental & feminine aspect of women. But I hope movies based on hero who is not all rounder & perfect should also be considered by indian movies. So far this kind of movies can be only seen more in low budget bollywood or marathi & Kerala movie industry.

Laila Majnu, Bul BuL and now this. Completely different stories, visually captivating and lookin different in every damn roles, now that’s a sign of a great actress.

Qala deserved better. What she did to her brother was wrong, but she was never shown any love or guided tto do the rihgt thing. She died and the reason for it? For being too ambitious. This movie weonged her charecter deeply and i wish she had a better ending.
