This is my favorite stick because of how it feels. Its really nice and solid. It sound like a dumb reason, but it has a really nice "damped" acoustic when you play on it. It doesn't sound cheap and hollow like for instance the Hori alpha. A Korean lever fits, however you cannot put on the lever hatch in the back. It touches the shaft of the lever. I put a round sticker over the hole. I tried this with a golden lever and the knee lever, both have the same "issue".

My man’s designing a $500 arcade stick hahaha. I just ordered one of these now that they’re going for $250. That seems like a great bang for your buck versus other sticks available. I don’t think I’d change too much from the design, aside from something I’d like to see in most arcade sticks. To me, this looks like the most premium stick since the Hori VLX Premium. Seeing as it’s trying to replicate the Vewlix arcade panel, I’d like to see the stick and buttons shifted a bit to the left, to allow room for a Start button on the right, much like the arcade cabinets, and Hori’s VLX and RAP 4/V. So many sticks leave a lot of unnecessary empty space the left of the stick. Either make room for a start button, or center everything for a bit of symmetry. Anyway, I appreciate your reviews, bro. Keep up the excellent work.

I still think Qanba is easily one of the, if not THE tournament standard when it comes to arcade sticks. However, its unfortunate that it's 2024 and these stick companies refuse to introduce easy modding access to all their sticks. We've seen it with the Nacon Daija, Dragon and the Victrix, idk why we can't get quality of life features

Stick is really nice but for the price it’s definitely not worth it. You can get a custom stick for less money and many of the features of the Obsidian 2 are just a gimmick.

@@zfranke3dome Junfood Arcades ain’t bad, JonyFraze makes excellent sticks.. idk there are just so many haha. At this point I think all of the major retailers have their own cases. I would just look it up on Google and see what you like best. I used some guy off a forum years ago and been happy since Also now I use a hori rap n and a Snackbox for 2D games

Great review JoyStick! I have a question on arcade sticks in general. I am new to fighting games and love my arcade stick, but I can't seem to find success with it sitting in my lap and my desk is far too high. very good question, I think for me I play 50% on my lap, and 50% on a table, but a lower table, not a dinning table height,, make sure you are not bending your back, if you feel soreness, then it means that position is not comfortable for you, sorry about the late reply 🙏♥

I love the design of the Obsidian 2. Very sleek. Other than that, I came to the same concusion you did. Not worth it. No LED or easy access to the inside panels. Not loving the headphone jack placement. I am a Pearl user so I dont plan to change anytime soon lol, ill stick with what i've got! I completely agree with your review, qanba is one of the best brands of arcade stick but this generation of their sticks are a step backwards. The obsidian/pearl is still the best all-round arcade stick out there in my opinion that's why I didn't upgrade from my gen 1. I'll rather mod my mine with a quick open latch and removable cable and wait for the gen 3 obsidian/pearl.

I went for the Hori Alpha and that isn't the best stick but for the lower price and how you get easy customisation it's a steal compared to what Qanba put out. Unfortunatley there's no love for sticks by the big companies this generation so far, Hori definitely needs a higher tier one like Nior. Also these hitbox controllers are killing off sticks I hope it shifts back at some point.

Why are there no controllers that come with Seimitsu parts anymore? I tried for a long time to make Sanwa work for me because of the reputation, but playing any SNK game was a nightmare. Hayabusa wasn't much better and it wasn't until I got an LS-40 that everything finally worked out. The LS-62 is also good.

@@JoystickNY hey it’s ok. I bought it and have already changed the stock lever and Sanwas for a Knee lever and Qanba 30mm silent buttons. Only issue I had was the wiring for the lever. I had to do it outside the case and had to use an extension for the wire harness.

I'm surprised Qanba only stick with easy access to the internals is the Dragon. The Obsidian 2 looks too generic to me, there's nothing 'unique' that can justify the crazy price. One thing, the old Qanba Sticks had the issue with the silver parts on it losing their color because of hands sweat, leaving an ugly spot on them. A friend of mine fixed that with wrapping the lower side of his Qanba Dragon, but still. That's the reason why this new Qanba sticks lineup is total black, even here they took the lazy route.

This is my main issue with Qanba and their PS5 lineup. It feels like every other brands out there realized the market is now exploding with leverless that they stuck to a flagship model for this gen while Qanba is sticking with very expensive multi-tiered stuff like the Drone 2, Titan, Obsidian 2 and the very limited "2009" (Vewlix control panel replicate with a built in table). I've owned a lot of arcade sticks including Qanba Q3RAF wireless PS3 arcade stick, the dual compatible Q4, 2 Obsidians and still own my Dragon and the Obsidian 2 does nothing more than the original Obsidian besides being PS5 native. Just like what you suggested, at a MSRP of $320 USD, I was hoping for a latch on the bottom like the Victrix FS Pro, detachable cable and Gravity buttons and maybe even the Gravity lever.

I think that in a closed and tight knit community that is the fgc, this move won't go unpunished. You can pull out a cash grab move like that in games that are always refiling their ranks with new players. But in the fgc. People are years in it and will inform even the most absurd spenders to not fall into this trap and instead buy the Obs1. Sad to see reliable companies turn into opportunistic corpo trash and try to ride the wave of newcomers like that. They will get flushed out in the long run.

I used to have this joystick. its garbage. I sold it first day I received it because Qanba is garbage when it comes to returning items. Don't even try to remove the back, or you have a very good chance of stripping the screw. There's so much more better sticks out there for the price. The Qanba 2 is worth $150 tops.

If someone is in the market for a new stick, skip the obsidian 2 and get the original obsidian! You can get some really good performance mods from arcade shock. You can get an extended vewlix layout so it’s more ergonomic, noir layout, all button conversion etc. probably gonna be my next purchase once I’m done modding my panthera.

I still prefer the first Obsidian in every way. Obsidian 2 is too large and unergonomic, the sides are annoying to use and the only thing they can accommodate is a spare button... I also don't like the asymmetry in so many places, the headphone jack looks ugly. Plus the price, $350 for an arcade stick with Sanwa parts, when you could buy first Obsidian for 1/3 of that amount. The only thing I can praise is the prepared cutout for stickless conversion and plenty of space for artwork, nothing else. Overall I'm disappointed.

The biggest mistake pretty much every recent fightstick release has been how homogeneous the designs are becoming. So plain and generic. Fightsticks used to have their own character. Especially if companies like Qanba are going to charge so much, at the very, very least make the designs interesting. No one wants to spend over £350 on something that looks like a repurposed DVD player...

i feel like stick manufacturers need to prioritize unique features rather than just parts. It's easy enough to buy any old stick and install sanwa buttons with your lever of choice and have it function like any "premium" stick these days

I use this with KRM buttons, a Knee lever and my custom artwork and I gotta say it’s my all time favorite stick. Love how informative you are though. Did a really good job going in depth with the review.

I'm honestly surprised that Qanba didn't put their own buttons and lever in this stick. I bought a Drone 2 and upgraded the buttons to Qanba Gravity KS and the lever to a Qanba Gravity Silent lever and it made the stick feel a lot more premium to me (though I'm very new to fighting games and arcade sticks). It's also very quiet now, makes me a lot less self conscious about clacking away at Street Fighter when my spouse is watching TV. What surprises me the most is that the Gravity buttons and lever are a standard option on the Qanba Q8, a $200 stick which includes full color LED lighting, the only difference being the Q8 is PC only and doesn't have the touchpad. It's frustrating that years into the console's life cycle, PS5 compatibility is still being sold as a premium feature with a surcharge to match.
