The 1990's was a good time to fly, well before any adverse security, and a time when the flying kangaroo was free.
the crew were a bunch of long working wags from all ends of Australia.
this is the only in flight footage from that time I have from when I took my sister Tanya on a LA holiday.
she filmed the only footage with me in fancy dress, in the Yves Saint laurent designed uniform. we were so young then.
I hope some crew see them selves in this old film from the time in QANTAS. 1990's.
I hope your all alive and well,
Love . xxo :-)

Fantastic video. I love watching old Qantas video cause I search for my uncle who was a chief steward in first class. We really miss him.

Thanks so much! Its more than 20 years later! What a blast from the past. Was great to see some old faces and remember such great times. It was a great crew, some of whom are still flying. We were all sorry to hear that your sister passed at such a young age. We are grateful to her for making the video. Thank you on behalf of the crew in the video

terrific video - and very rare footage indeed. It was so good to see the business and first class cabins from back then....oh how times have changed. I’m sure it would have been a wonderful time to fly back in the 1990s especially as cabin crew. And I loved the old Qantas YSL uniforms :-) I vividly remember them from when I was a kid....thanks so much for uploading.

No audio anymore? Used to hear Blue Sky Mine by Midnight Oil (0:27-2:35) and How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees (2:35-6:20) play over the video. 😕

that flooded me with old memories! That was around the same time I went on my first flight on the same aircraft as a 5 or 6 year old. back when the cabin crew were friendly. I remember I was being a bit of a brat to my parents and one of the cabin crew grabbed me and took me to meet the pilots and sit on their lap to give my parents a break! don't think kids these days would be given the same privilege. thanks for sharing!

Great tribute for your sister, and an awesome insight into Qantas history - I've always wondered what it was like to fly in a time before I was even born. Thanks a lot :)

Thank you for sharing this and what a lovely tribute to your sister- I'm so sorry to hear that, no age and I feel for you. I worked for the British one and remember those 747's, the 21 day trips and meeting up with many Qantas crews down route, I remember seeing you in those YSL uniforms, so smart. A really awesome video, it shows a job that is in your blood... I loved it.

Wow what an awesome video and tribute to your sister! That was my absolute favourite QF uniform of all time! I flew MEL to LAX in 1990 as an UM (I was 14yrs old) and was placed on the upper deck for the flight. It was one of the best flights I have ever been on. Good memories. Thank you for sharing this. I eventually became cabin crew for Air NZ.

Wow. Talk about flooding the memories! I was an AC/FA during that period (89-95), and it is amazing it was over 20 yr ago. We had great times on some very long trips to places QF don't get to anymore (BAH, SEL, NGO, FUK, PPT, KUL, AMS, CDG, etc....). Maybe we flew together some time? Was heartbreaking to see at the end your sister who passed so young. Thanks for the video....TJF!!!

Great clip and a lovely memory for you! I was not expecting that ending :( Those were the days when flying was such a joy and you have the chance of a near empty plane. Not now with all the code shares. You never quite know which airline you will end up being on.

When you filmed the plane at 1:08, I saw the last two letters of the plane's registration. Therefore it is VH-OJF. It's been retired 2 years ago. It's last passenger flight was only 6 days before I went overseas on Qantas a380 VH-OQI David Warren. But I flew back on Boeing 747-400 VH-OJM.

Was this at the old Brisbane International Airport? That brings back some childhood memories going to that barn-like airport and climbing what felt like a million stairs up to the big 747. Going on a plane like that back then was quite exciting and I use to love my frequent trips to the cockpit.... oh how the times have changed! Sorry to hear that your sister passed away so young.

Was there a flight engineer in the B744?
@eltfell
@eltfell 8 жыл бұрын
+MsAmdfan I know that normally the B744 has got a cockpit for only two pilots, but on 3:45 you can clearly see a third man wearing headphones on the position of a flight engineer. What now?

I flew in that very plane. Got upgraded to business because the plane was absolutely full. was the worst service ever!! They brought out our trays and we had to wait over an hour for main course to arrive. We were being served our coffees as the plane was descending due to their hopelessness

Pretty much everything the airline does nowadays has restrictions, back in the 1990s Qantas's didnt have union disputes, Competition from Virgin "Australia" and people spoke much more highly of Qantas back then, now it seems people will criticise Qantas for pretty much anything they do. Qantas did recently return to profitability but the airline just isnt the same anymore
@poorpatrician9488
@poorpatrician9488 8 жыл бұрын
***** Qantas has been hurt by competition by many airlines, which are government backed (such as Air NZ, Singapore Airlines etc) and Qantas doesn't have this sort of government backing which is hurting the airline alot. Qantas has also had to deal with competition from virgin Australia which is ~80% foreign owned by airlines that are government backed themselves (Etihad, Air NZ) so Qantas is getting hit by all kinds of competition that have unfair advantages. The general public doesn't speak very highly of Qantas anymore as well (which is a shame because Qantas is not even a bad airline) but for whatever reason people seem to just hate Qantas for stupid things like no IFE on older planes, No pajamas in Business class etc.
@speedbird1598
@speedbird1598 8 жыл бұрын
How do people even get a chance to use IFE? I had a 15 hour flight and never touched the IFE!
