Nothing will beat the old video that took us through the evolution of Qantas. We could connect to that and it was engaging - isn’t that the purpose of such a video? This is convoluted, confusing and features other countries and mainly people who have Left Australia. Luckily I fly a lot, otherwise I would have no idea of the safely features as 9.5 minutes is tedious and is more like a short film about expats than safety information. I can’t imagine how much money was spent on the production of this epic, but you’ve missed the mark in my opinion. Take a look at Singapore Airlines safety video for the gold standard.

I can tell you pricing just for the ferry scene towards the end was probably over $1,500/hour and they hired the ferry for about 5 hours in mid 2023.

It’s way too long and the safety message gets lost in the advertisement and the subliminal messaging Qantas loves. Passengers will not be able to maintain attention for almost 10 minutes. The JAL airlines accident is a lesson; well trained cabin crew and well briefed passengers on what’s required in an evacuation.

Given the recent incident involving JAL at Haneda, I had a look at their safety video. It’s HALF the length of this one, bilingual, and clearly showed what you needed to do (and what might happen if you don’t). I’m convinced that JAL’s concise and to-the-point safety video contributed to a successful evacuation without anyone holding up the cabin taking out luggage. Sadly with this video it’s so long and indirect I fear people will tune out after the first minute, especially regular fliers.
@AlfAllen-pv4kn

Totally agree 7681! QF have learnt nothing from JAL's incredibly successful evacuation. This has 'Alan Joyce' all over it. Same old, same old. Such a lost opportunity to 'reset'!

Perhaps the unpopular opinion for the moment, but the idea of having this kind of safety video is to get the audience engaged. Passengers often ignore generic safety videos. They're on their phone, computer, or otherwise mentally not present. That's why you have most major airlines (Singapore, Malaysian, British, Air NZ, Qantas) try and make something that people will pay attention to. I do agree this one is very long though, which may result in it having the opposite effect. There needs to be a balance. FYI the Qantas one is bilingual on flights to certain destinations.

As per usual Qantas Safety Videos, there are 75 versions of the video, covering each different aircraft type in 12 language translations. The video is shortened when onboard and relates to the aircraft you are flying on and the language designated for that flight.

I regret to say that i'm a little disappointed. This safety vid lacks in comparison to the 17, 18 and 19 ones. Its a cool concept, but it just lacks a consistent vibe throughout, the music is boring and the vid does not really climax anywhere, and, it feels less 'aussie' compared to the other ones. Wheres the iconic "g'day, and welcome to qantas"? Whilst previous vids I would proudly say were best in the industry by far, I feel that this one just isn't at the level of the others. Hopefully a better one next year...

The video is visually magnificent and must have cost a fortune to create, which I personally censure for the following reason. Given Qantas's recent shameful (bordering on fraudulent) treatment of its frequent flyer customers and Alan Joyce feathering his nest during this contentious period, the video smacks of smoke and mirrors. I was one of Qantas's victims, losing a significant amount of frequent flyer points during the Covid epidemic when it was impossible to travel. All attempts to reach them and redress my complaint were totally ignored. Also the actual safety directives are lost in this too long but captivating video.

@@lundimardi1975 Trust me, just one scene cost close to $10,000 to produce I believe. The ferry scene, although local, was very costly. They hired the Freshwater, the harbour's biggest and oldest ferry which costs quite a lot to operate. They chartered the vessel for about 4-6 hours in June 2023 in the afternoon and sailed it in loops of the main harbour all for that one shot.

Qantas have advised that this is the online 10 minute version and the onboard version will be more condensed, though I’ll be interested to see how. I’m not sure featuring destinations that Qantas does not and is never likely to fly to is relevant; Mexico, Finland, Morocco. I’m not sure who signed off on this, but if this is the extent of Todd Sampsons contribution at a board level…….

Best Safety Video EVER! The scenery, the inclusivity-from Aborigines to lounge team members and even us frequent fliers💖 (Louise is a hero to me for exactly what care and love is all about and Nestor shines!), FAs, pilots, and even passengers-makes it interesting, kind, and warm. For those saying it's not informative, it's actually more detailed than many others, showing how to brace and life jacket locations, which most airlines skip! Teared up hearing "Still Call Australia Home" at the end. Thank you for sharing your beautiful people, country, and airline with the world. 💚

This is a stunning and beautiful production, but sadly you have buried the safety information in amongst lots of other information that looks like a TV show or movie. You are showing the life jacket on a boat? The information should be given in a clear and concise manner. This requires our attention for almost 10 whole minutes, and only a third of that is safety information. You didn't show how taking luggage can destroy the evacuation slide and block the access.

It’s good, but maybe too long. And also show the dangers of Baggage at evacuation. That is how that JAL flight evacuated everyone successfully. But I love the creativity.

Truly magical video. I love it. You can play it several times on the flight and I won't complain. I haven't flown Qantas for a while but I will now, to watch the video but especially the reaction of other passengers reactions. Well done Qantas.

As a qualified pilot THIS garbage is not a safety briefing in the slightest. I am surprised CASA hasn't brought Qantas to task over this! The safety of passengers in the air should always be the 1st and only priority. This is an advert NOT a safety briefing. Passengers and the safety of all on board could rest on people fully understanding what to do in the event of fire, water ditching or crash situation. Vital safety messages are lost in this garbage. CASA should get this pulled immediately. Qantas have gone downhill since Joyce and are still sinking When a Qantas plane suffers a catastrophe and lives a lost Heads should role

Very good video, visually pleasing that's for sure. That said, like many others have already stated, it seems like a tourism advert, plus it is a little long. I'm not sure that you'll be able to capture everyone's attentions for that length of time.

I do not like this video, as the safety message is buried: Stick to just the safety message, and perhaps show an evacuation simulation of an emergency landing from the passenger viewpoint

That was 30 seconds of safety information and 9 minutes of tourism ads, and they weren't even for Australia!

Snoozefest - I've seen it once and was bored 30 seconds in. It's not punchy, and there is no captivating theme that connects the narrative. I'm probably gonna switch off completely when i have to watch this on board. And this is not what the video creators would want. The last video, which looked at Qantas through the ages, was brilliant. Even when i watched it for the 100th time on board, I still had a chuckle at the jokes, and hairstyles. And considering the last one lasted 3 years, chances are I will fly another carrier just to avoid watching this for 10 minutes on board. It's also far too long. Please tell me there will be a shortened version?

The length is normal when the aircraft is taxing something it could take 5 mins and sometimes 15 mins .... when onboard you don't even notice while you taxi.

@@tonybedorulz meanwhile the flight attendants are standing for 10 minutes waiting to show you how the buckle connects, then 3 minutes later to point out the exist doors, followed by the oxygen masks 2 miinutes later. Ridiculous.
