I laugh at Andy Atkinson's comment, this song is stunning, a great vocal on this track, and a perfect compliment to The Fall's more esoteric geometrics and mind blowing word play interweavings ...

Such a sweet and spooky song: the Fall do folk-rock?
@qashak6 жыл бұрын
The fall plays very diverse music. I call it post-punk. :-) rateyourmusic.com/artist/the-fall-1
@elizabethhann40286 жыл бұрын
qashak: thank you so much for writing back to me. I know that the Fall are categorized as a post-punk band (English rock critic Simon Reynolds classifies them as such in his brilliant book *Rip It Up And Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984* [books.google.ca/books?id=dK-F43T8V0wC&printsec=frontcover&dq=rip+it+up+and+start+again&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiY74n25NzcAhUad94KHdtWARMQuwUILDAA#v=onepage&q&f=false] [ripitupfootnotes.blogspot.com/2008/11/footnotes-11-chapter-10-just-step.html], and writes about them extensively in the context of post-punk rock music); all I meant by my above comment was that, on this one track, it *sounded* like the Fall's version of folk-rock. And that surprised me, because all the other Fall material that I'd listened to in the past - *Live At The Witch Trials" , *Hex Enduction Hour* , *Extricate* , *The Light User Syndrome* , seemingly dozens of other albums - have all sounded, to me, like the *opposite* of folk-rock. And that's why I like them. I like "Janet vs. Jane and Johnny", too, don't get me wrong, it's just...what's that warm and strummy guitar doing there? By the way, do you have a favorite Fall song? Or a favorite album of theirs?

qashak: Oh, fabulous! Thanks so much! I haven't listened to 16 Horsepower before now, but now that you've told me about them, I know I'll have to listen to them some more. They do sound great; they sound a little bit like the Bad Seeds (my other favorite band, besides the Fall). By the way, do you like Nick Cave?

I have not listened to The Fall for many years, listening to new bands. But my favorite album is for sure "Code: Selfish" (and "Bend Sinister" and "I Am Kurious Oranj" too)...

@juliansanby99946 жыл бұрын
Really? I've followed them since 1978, saw them at Nottingham's Sandpiper and heard them on John Peel if they did a session with almost religious devotion and I used to try and dictate other peoples musical taste for them, I even thought I was doing them a good turn, to be fair though, turning Fall virgins' on to their style of music IS a good deed but I'm afraid you go too far, implying that not liking this number somehow diminishes my love of their music in general. I happen not to like it at the moment but it may grow on me in the future as many other, tracks have over the years. I no longer pass judgement on what makes someone a Fall fan although I cheerfully slag off their opinion if it happens to disagree with my own! All done in the best possible taste and no malice intended.
