“Behold the Lamb of God…” Introducing Jesus and His mission to the nation of Israel and to the world, John the Baptist chose this special location on the Jordan River for this great announcement.
Joshua 4 verses 1-3: "When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”
John 1:
Verse 29: "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
Verses 32-34: "Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One."
