Ajay Bisaria's book, addressing the 2019 Pulwama attack and the ensuing India-Pakistan air battle, appears to have overlooked certain crucial details that must be remembered: 1. Indian govt categorically termed Pakistan's actions on the morning of 27th Feb as an ‘act of war’. With a three times larger military force, any professional army would have responded but the Indian military leadership was in a state of ‘operational paralysis’. 3. Six Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel including a senior officer were killed in fratricide when a surface-to-air missile hit India’s own MI-17. It all happened on a day when IAF was on its highest alert levels. 4. Pakistan’s response was very calculated and calibrated as it responded in the same conventional mode while exercising full escalation control and dominance. India knew any further provocation at their end will again meet a notch above response from Pakistan. 5. The fifth biggest Air Force of the world was asked to stand down and instead Pak was threatened with surface to surface missiles mostly because India could guarantee no further losses should they came after PAF again. 6. After the embarrassing defeat, Air Marshal Chandrashekharan Hari Kumar who was serving as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of Western Command was forced to retire on the very next day on 28 Feb 2019. 7. For the first time in regional calculus, which has always shown Pakistan as the nuclear first user was upended. Modi's preposterous bluster of ‘Qatal Ke Rat’ on the night following the air battle showed that India was willing to nuclearise the conflict in initial stages. 8. Indian forces were left exposed without a coordinated Public Relations department. Indian Airforce Chief was holding a part of AMRAAM missile in a press conference while accusing Pakistan of using F16s. It dispayed utter weakness and desperation of an armed force which was unequipped for the modern warfare both in the narrative domain or in the skies. Not many are aware that most Indian channels went Off Air for over an hour when news broke of the capture of Wing Commander Abhinandan. 9. India let its unhinged 'corporate run' media set the narrative, which proclaimed 350 dead in Balakot. This was a grave mistake as the world watched India's credibility being shred into tatters. The claims of F-16 being shot down were debunked by every credible source. The attempt to rewrite history by authors like Bisaria may suit the interests of certain political entities and political agendas of people like Modi, but the penetrating truth remains vivid, ready to be served whenever the need arises.
