Qatar’s lack of communication and unhelpfulness finding you a similar product after their cancellation is a drop in quality of service. Coupled to the different levels of business class interiors and lounge access does’nt seem to me to fit with a 5star airline. Very good video as always.

With the lack of new updated planes from Hong Kong, some even having torn parts and dirty parts, the mistakes in service I have experience I now have them and cathy on about the same level. I just go with which ever is cheaper. Qatar ran out of food and snacks on my flight or the staff didn't feel bothered to get more after I asked. Just laughed and played in the hallway after many requests. paying that much money and them running out of food has left a sour taste in my mouth.

being Qatar'd seems to be far more common place in the past few months...looks like it was their ancient 2-2-2 business product aswell. It's one of the reasons i prefer SQ as all their widebody aircraft are 1-2-1 and give all aisle access

Hamad Intl airport is not consistently rated the world's best airport. Singapore Changi is consistently rated the world's best.

Not much has changed regarding the ME3 airlines when it comes to equipment change and IRROPS. I had a First Class ticket with Emirates 10 years ago and they did a similar swap like Qatar did here in your case. I was downgraded and got no info, noticed this 8 days before my trip on a cash payed revenue ticket and they could only offer me to fly the day before or after. I asked them to book me via London or any other EU destination that had First Class same day but they said they couldn't because they didnt have any codeshare with any airlines from Sweden........ I ended up flying the flight in Business class, had a 10 month lenghty e-mailing back and forward and EK wanted to only offer me 330 EUR for the downgrade on a 7h First Class flight...... Totally shitty handled..... Never flown Emirates since and have now lifetime status with other airlines.

Note that the previous CEO wanted first class only on the A380. It's because this aircraft used by Rory is leased from CX. Today's CEO has said his airline will introduce a new and upgraded first class on selected routes starting with the 777-9 when it arrives (assuming of course there are no delivery delays from Boeing).

@@alexmcwhirter6611 Qatar dry leased these Cathay aircraft, so I believe the food is of the same standard as Qatar's A380 first class. Other than the caviar, I do find the rest of the menu somewhat underwhelming.😅

@@RoryDing I can believe that. First class was planned to be removed altogether from the long-haul fleet when the A380s were grounded. But the A380s were reactivated and I suspect the first class onboard catering today is a quasi-product (as only the leased aircraft have first class cabins - A380 excepted) QR's full first class product will return when the new 777-9s are delivered. Check aviation media and you will see the comments from QR's new CEO re the future first class product.

Hello Rory, thanks a lot for this KZbin. QR's previous CEO Al Baker wanted to scrap first class from all its long-haul fleet with the exception of A380. So it's not a proper first class (seating excepted) on this leased CX 777 aircraft. Current CEO has reversed that decision and said a new and upgraded first class will be introduced on the 777-9 when these aircraft are received from Boeing. It was Al Baker who told the public that QR's A380s would *never* return to service ... but he had to change his mind later because the current QR fleet could not meet demand. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6mZo5ilgtOfqtk

It depends on where the flight tickets are purchased. For example, tickets bought in Cairo can be less expensive when flying long-haul.

Your mishap with Qatar is not a one off experience. Qatar is infamous for its last minute equipment swaps, many of which are without passengers' knowledge. It can get frustrating to passengers in all classes as it could mean that you are paying Qsuite prices for their A330-300 business class (dinosaur seat). Furthermore, the mediocre damage control done by Qatar's staff means that you may not even get a chance to refund/rebook your ticket without going through a long and bureaucratic process whilst keeping you in limbo in the transit area of the airport. Singapore Airlines, ANA or any other Asian carrier on the other hand, will not only inform you of any equipment swaps but also swiftly compensate you and listen to your requests/ follow up with you on any updates. It means that you would not have to panic and run around the airport trying to rectify your problems. Nonstop Dan has had tonnes of these happen to him on his Qatar flights.

​@@RoryDing Which is exactly why Qatar does not deserve its Skytrax ranking of 1st/2nd due to poor management from the airline. Emirates in my opinion, is a better fit for that rank. Plus I also find Emirates hospitality to be miles better than Qatar's, outdoing even SQ and both Japanese carriers. It is mostly the Qatari CEO change sometime last year. The former CEO Akbar Al Bakar was a lot better than the incumbent one and was also good mates with Dan.
