Just love mummering (is that a word? It is now!!) But those guys have to be burning up in their "uniforms". Thanks so much for these great performances.

The word is "mumming"! But hey, mummering is fine too! And yes, they would be hot - but even with global warming, it's still January 1st in Philadelphia - they aren't quite dying either. And they can take off the masks a few times to catch a breather in between marching and playing.

Brilliant musicians and arrangement with Captain Jimmy bobbing about in the front. I play the Sax & this is a lovely rich sound. Love to the Irish 🇮🇪 from Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. X

I'm fairly new to the Philadelphia string band phenomenon, but I have to say that this is the finest musical performance of any string band I have ever heard. Not surprised at all that they took first place.

If you loved this, check out Ferko 1989, Fralinger 1987, Quaker City 1988-1992, Franlinger 2003-2007, as a start. Most performances from the past almost 40 years are on YT. As a proud Philadelphian there's nothing better than the Mummers!

I could be wrong but I believe I heard at least one baritone sax in there somewhere and if that's the case I give that person a lot of props for carrying, walking and playing that thing all that way!!! You guys are fantastic!

Yes - if you watch the section from the TV performance you can see - after the captain climbs up on the imaginary chandelier, when he gets down and they start to shift, look to the back left - there's at least 2, if not 3 or more baritone saxes - they're dressed up in white "ghoul" outfits. You can see they're baritones by the size. And having played in high school bands with a lot of guys that were/are still Mummers in bands like QCSB, it's very common for them to have 2-6 baritones in their bands to hit those low low notes and add depth to the band's sound (and range lol)

Went "up the street" in the 1950s with the Hammond Comic Club. Quacker City has outdone itself with their 2023 show. Congratulations on a well-deserved win.
