Axelson such a great guy with great sportsmanship! He is already a winner!

Stupid call from umpire. SYQ challenged immediately after realizing that Viktor's challenge was canceled. Did the umpire expect him to challenge his own shot that was called in? This sport needs more experienced, professional umpires. She is clearly too young and inexperienced for the role.

As an objective observer, I think Shi Yuqi's attack was extremely poor (unforced errors, slow movement) and he lost his mental composure in the 2nd game. Yesterday's game of Axelsen against the Indian youngster (18 yo) Sen was objectively more interesting - Longer, with more explosive movement. The score line also suggests the same. Good luck for the future, Shi Yuqi! I also, for the first time, feel moderately comfortable in saying that Sen can become a giant in the future - He recently beat Jonatan Christie, and also has taken Lin Dan to 3 games twice.

44:05 could be free point given to SYQ for previous unsuccessful challenge 🤔
@RizkyMaulanaNugraha3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. If you are talking about 40:00, Viktor knew it was out, that's why he challenged when the line judge signals in. He didn't see the line judge changed decision to out. Which is why the challenge is canceled by umpire. However he knew the point is rightfully his, he just think that SYQ deserved a right to challenge too, even though it will be out. In the case when the umpire give point to Viktor when he himself thinks that he didn't deserved it, Viktor will throw the point in his serve immediately, not 3/4 points after (Viktor indeed did this in the past). It has to be immediately for sportmanship, otherwise he can be accused of throwing/match-fixing.

doods20 fer maybe he feels like his body was at its limits. Professional players have a very good understanding of their bodys condition. Pushing ones body more than it is capable to take can lead to injury very easily, especially in badminton with many direction changes. Ankles and knees are being tested at their limits. Shi has had problems with the ankle previously and is most likely aware of it, watching his own condition during the play. He might have thought there is no point to push it further and risk injury, when the score was already hugely in the Danish mans favor.
