This video made me realise something. The Bambu is effectively the iPhone of printers. It's good, it's premium but the customising and control is shallow. Whereas, printers like the Qidi are more Android, less flash, more features.

@@FauxHammerI agree, hence buying a Max 3 last night. Paying more money for features that you don't need at the expense of massively more utility via larger print space and the ability to print more materials (due to heated chamber) - it just doesn't make sense.

This was my first FDM printer. I have had zero issues. I did have an oddity when printing then xyz cube where the printer would push up the build plate and hit the extruder. They sent me a new extruder housing right away. They have some seriously awesome customer service.

The X-Max3 is an insanely capable printer! People might see the $900 price tag and balk though. In that case, the X-Smart3 is only $299 right now and you can get 5% off! Has almost all the same capability, just at a small size. Truly crazy the value there and I'm amazed more printing channels aren't talking about it. Same price as an A1 Mini, but an enclosed Core XY Klipper printer. Wild!

I loved my X-Max 3 so much that I bought its little brother, the X-Smart 3. My only gripe about the X-Smart 3 is that it has an inductive sensor instead of the BLTouch that the X-Max 3 has, and that the X-Smart 3 does not use the embedded magnets that are on the X-Max 3. Instead, the X-Smart 3 uses a magnetic sheet, which in my mind impedes the heat transfer to the flex spring steel coated build plate. But both printers are serving me well, expecially the X-Max 3. I have been printing Qidi carbon-fiber PET filament on my X-Max 3 with excellent results. The only thing that I 'upgraded' on my X-Max 3 is replacing the Qidi dry-box with a 'Stacker F-Box' dry box that I ordered from Amazon. Like the Qidi dry box, it uses dessicant, but I believe the Stacker F-Box is sealed better than the Qidi dry box. Also, it can be placed next to the printer with a longer feed tube.

Perfect review thanks man! I just ordered one before you dropped this vid but we’re yet to receive it. The school program offered a Boxlight Robo e3 printer. So I found one similar in value but way better and bigger and I’m hoping it gets approved 😂👌🏽 Hearing mixed things on the Neptune 4 max which is what I would have chosen.

I have one for about a month and i love it. Big buildplate, steel rods, can print PA-CF, is wicked fast, solid frame and doesn't need any internet. I don't have to wait for the weekend to print bigger parts. I just have to find a stronger table. The IKEA Lack has an "amplitude" of about a centimeter. Any suggestions on that?

I use kitchen worktops from Ikea. the problem with Ikea Lack, is that it lacks in a lot of ways, like strength and stability. bg heavy duty legs and affixing it to a wall can help

great vid. that's my dilemma. I have been looking either this the x plus or a p1s. out of interest did you have to do the manual z height adjust? you didnt mention that in the vid so was wondering if thats necessary still?

I didn't need to adjust anything. this just worked for me. I have seen this mentioned on some videos. Perhaps I'm lucky or had a newer revision of the hardware.

ok so you literally ran the bed level and thats it? the reason I ask is that I love this printer but am not a fan of manual z off set after my ender 3s1. that part is pushing me away from the qidi. But size and price especially here is OZ is a major draw card for me. thanks for the reply as well @@FauxHammer

I never could figure out how to make orca slicer work with klipper/Moonraker so I could print wirelessly. So can I assume he did that here? I've been having to use a USB drive.

when you add the printer in wireless options you need ip:port.. Use : between them. So "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10088" worked for me (where xxx is your ip address)

I've been using a Qidi-tech 1 for nearly 8 years. The printer just keeps printing, and this company backs their printers. I had a motor go out in the first couple weeks I owned it, and I contacted them, expecting to have to buy a new motor or something obnoxious. Instead, they shipped me two motors, and a box of other various parts that I might need in the future (one could argue this could be included with the printer). They were a new company then, and have only seem to have gotten better. I'm strongly considering this printer, as it is the only printer in the price bracket with a heated chamber. Depending on what you're printing, this is significant.

+1 I'v been using the i-Mate S for about 2 Years. At first, there were some minor Issues (sloppy Assembling of the Printer). After fixing that, the Printer just works and works... And yes, their Customer Support is S-Tier. Haven't seen any Company come close to Qidi (and i'm old ;)

there is a camera for the xplus 3 and xmax 3. also you dont even have the full package yet, you can contact qidi and get an inductive sensor, a better and improved fan shroud wich also cools mainboard and extruder motor, a new better USB cable and a magnetic sheet to keep the spring steel sheet from warping because the magnets are actually too strong :D

First time I saw anyone explain why they moved from embedded magnets to sticker magnet. Thanks! My only gripe with that move is sometimes I like to slap a glass bed onto my printer, and if you do that with a sticker magnet, it will bond to the glass and ruin the magnet. The embedded route doesn't do that. If you look at BuildTak, they have the embedded magnets in a sticker which is unique and allows for placing glass or carbon fiber build plates on top without this issue. As for the magnet strength, you are right they are super strong and can warp thinner spring steel sheets. BuildTak sheets are much thicker than average for that reason, but also more expensive.

I keep looking at this because I want to do engineering materials and large prints... but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on it because it still feels half-baked to me. As does the K1 Max. I would rather wait either for Qidi to bring this up to date with current feature sets or for Bambu to release their XL printer. I don't mind paying a few hundred dollars more for something more refined.

For filament loading just load the filament into the dry box and run a Bowden tube to it so you don't have to have it on the back.

@@FauxHammer I have backed the Co Print for multi filament/color capability and I guess one of the hurdles is exactly that from what I've read. Not sure how much of one it is, but knowing that the company that made the 3d printer I purchased made it a closed platform is a bummer to me.

Truth is Bambu came in and upped the game for the entire 3d printer market. Forced the other companies to up their game to match or beat it. Great for us 3d printer enthusiasts or we could be still getting more slightly upgraded bed slingers. I'm even thinking of selling my X1c buying this, and then the Bambu labs A1 mini printer for Pla prints for my kids etc.

You failed to mention the manual z axis offset. Not much different than the ancient Prusa Mk3 S+. I HATE manually setting the z offset. AND you need to take the top off the printer to set the it. Still.. This is the printer that I'm recommending for our small prototyping needs.

QidiTech seems to have sent this printer to just about every KZbin channel. That back of the printer filament is a bad design, agree. All these new printers are making me with my modified MK3S+ feel inferior.
