Күн бұрын

On March 11, 2015 NASA and Orbital ATK conducted the first qualification ground test of the five-segment rocket motor that will be used for initial thrust for NASA's heavy-lift Space Launch System, which will enable new missions of exploration across the solar system. This video gives a quick look at the events of the day.

Whats with all the dirt? Devising ways to not kick up so much dry earth into atm, is not that hard, I would think. Dampened soil is going reduce as much dust. Real launches use plenty of water sprayed during launch.
@HesJustSteven
@HesJustSteven 7 жыл бұрын
Karthik V the water for real launches are not to prevent dirt being kicked up, it's for sound suppression to not damage the launch pad, either way the kicked up dirt will fall back to earth as it's not a gas.

+HarryHoppins These types of rockets are obsolete. Impossible to throttle or relight the engine. So it is impossible to attempt reusability. The future is reusability which requires liquid.
@izzad777
@izzad777 8 жыл бұрын
+HarryHoppins apart of less efficient, you cant control SRB once you lit it, you have to let it burnt out. no powering down, not turning it off, no reigniting it.
@HarryHoppins
@HarryHoppins 8 жыл бұрын
+izzad ibrahim Recently read something about the concept of big dumb booster. just thought could be an option, but obviously solids aren't safe enough, maybe hybrids with pressurized oxidizer in composite tanks could be.
@HesJustSteven
@HesJustSteven 7 жыл бұрын
HarryHoppins remember the boosters are there only to power the rocket through the thickest of the atmosphere. Regular rocket engines can't push that weight without burning through their fuel supply before reaching orbit, that's why boosters are used, to conserve the liquid fuel, once they're spent, you're in thinner atmosphere so you can use solely the liquid rocket engines as there is less drag up there. You wanna know about REALLY dangerous fuels. Look up hypergolics.
