Thanks for vid.I dont understand how something so basic can cost so much. Can you a third party version or this is the only option available for a QNAP NAS?
@MikeFaucher9 күн бұрын
I am not aware of anything else at this point. I think it is mainly a driver issue trying to use other devices. Some of the new USB versions may work, but most likely only on newer NAS devices. I have not been able to find anything so far. You are right; if your NAS is older, you may be better off with a new one with a 10GbE built-in.

This was very helpful. Here is my set up once the QNAP TS-364 arrives: Mac --------> NAS
@MikeFaucher2 жыл бұрын
The first part of you question is yes, it will engage both. If you MAC has a wifi and a USB adapter it will also connector to the router and internet. What you are doing will work fine but it a bit more complicated to initially configure as everything will be manual IPs. Let me know how it turns out.

Great vid ! Got the pluggable 2.5Gbps usb c & USB adapter so I could pull more outa my xfinity gigabit plan due to 20% overhead appropriation 1188 Mbps down now! (Opposed to 940Mbps) Was def worth it !

Did the Pluggable adapter work on your Qnap out of the box? Would really love to know before i spend silly money on the Qnap adapter!!!
@JohnMcGing14 жыл бұрын
I own 2 of these and while QNAP says that will not work on my 2 TS-453Bmini's, they do indeed work and while it maxes out not quite at 4GBe, given QNAP says it shouldn't work at all I'm happy with the better speeds. It does run hot but no issues regarding disconnection.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the video. I am thinking of upgrading my 1GB network to a 2.5GB network using the QNAP QSW-1105-5T - 2.5 Gigabit Switch from one of your previous videos. I intend to purchase two of the QNA-UUC5G1T units. One for my HP Laptop, and the other for my QNAP 251+ NAS. My question is: Will adding the new 2.5 Gigabit switch assist the QNA units to achieve more speed, or am I wasting my money buying the switch and just stick with the QNA units? Thanks.

It really depends on how fast the drives in your NAS are and the drive configuration. The typical RED drive is around 100-120 MB/s which is roughly the same as a 1Gig network. With only two drives unless they are in RAID 0 you will only get around 10-15% of speed gain but you will be ready for the future when you upgrade your NAS. Also if you are going to get an adapter for your laptop check out the video I did on the Plugable. It is less than half the cost. The 5G1T is great on the NAS but on a laptop, you have many more choices.

Great video again sir! One question, I have heard multiple complaints that this adapter gets very hot and disconnects. Have you had any issues with yours? I plan on using it on a laptop.
@MikeFaucher4 жыл бұрын
Its gets warm but nothing unreasonable for networking equipment. It has a good aluminum enclosure and I have never had it disconnect. Hope that helps.

Ive got one and so far its never disconnected i believe it does thermal throttle however so you arent getting the full 5gbe if you was ud be able to get around 625MB/s read speeds but ive only ever seen it cap out at around 440MB/s tested on a NAS ramdisk
@grahamjones67124 жыл бұрын
The chunkier wider ones with bigger heatsinks may perform better ive not seen any benchmark comparisons though

Beware first time used one yesterday and many problems. Disconnect etc after troubleshooting it was the device which was too warm. So I enabled thermal throttling and lowered the threshold before it slows down... Et voilà et oui oui c'est bien comme ça.. No more issues 15h no more problems

@@MikeFaucher I had a similar issue with my xg c100c from Asus internal 10gb card. I disabled all the offload settings which offload the cpu but loads the adapter. No thermal settings for this card but it did the same disconnects etc

Thanks for the review. For me it was a failure. I managed to contact both ways pc- nas nas-pc. But the connection was unstabile. I lost connections. I do not recommend to use with MSI laptop. I disabled: usb power control. internet adapter power control. Enable: jumbo frame 9k Tip: if you plug it in your nas. Don't forget to allow access in QuFirewall otherwise you can not connect to it.

I wondering...when you connect this USB to a computer and then to a normal 1gb switch, will you still get those speeds? or is the switch the bottleneck? If you connect this to a NAS -> 1gb Switch -> computer where both the NAS and computer has this usb network adapter...is the switch the bottleneck?
@MikeFaucher3 жыл бұрын
Going through a switch will limit your speed.
@grahamjones67124 жыл бұрын
I also tested a iSCSI LUN but there seemed to be about a 20% overhead too performance on a lun compared to a SMB share i was only getting 360MB/s read speeds instead of 440MB/s read speeds

What if you have a 1GB switch, but plan on connecting this adapter directly to a NAS (that has other ports connected to that regular 1GB switch) - if the intention is just to have the one desktop PC have 5GB to the NAS, and the PC also has dual ports, so it can connect to the 1GB switch too...understanding that only the desktop PC would benefit from the speed boost, but other systems in the home/internet would be at 1GB - would that work?
@MikeFaucher4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that can work. There are some who use this approach. I was planning on doing a video on that exact situation as I know that many can't afford 2.5/10G switches, cabling, etc. Thanks for the feedback.

Mike what is the address of the page where I can download the files I need for my synology 918+?
@MikeFaucher3 жыл бұрын
Not sure this is supported by Synology. I believe it is PC and QNAP.
