Was this guy just born with harmony cries?? How can 1 person be so brilliantly weird and talented! I really don’t think I could live sitting through a full album!! Your reaction-priceless! Grinning like a fool!

Jacob does microtonal singing at about 8:25 It’s possible because of his perfect pitch, but the five-dimensional conception he works in is pure genius!
@nocontender6409 Жыл бұрын
I can microtonal w relative. I'm not trying to be weird lol I just don't think his perfect pitch is what makes that possible.
@Thomas-yl8lb Жыл бұрын
This is possible even without absolute pitch, albeit more challenging.

At 11:52 the bass voices on “drift-“ hits sooooo hard They have just enough raspiness to them and are layered really thick so it sounds amazing
@sarahvancleve7903 жыл бұрын
Another amazing thing about Jacob Collier is that he'll make hours long videos breaking down note by note how he made his songs, which unadulterated enthusiasm. He's equally as passionate about teaching and sharing his art as he is about making it.

He uses the technology like another instrument. His talents are simply enormous and so wide ranging.

I usually never post anything. But i just discovered your reactions tonight, and i *must* say that i am enjoying them so much. Probably because your reactions ans comments show that you understand a lot of what is going on... But like most of us, if not all of us, Jacob's experiments overwhelm you by a bit :-) Then you let it go... And beauty takes over. Thank you for sharing this !
@Goddess_Moros3 жыл бұрын
8:35 the way Jacob articulated that arpeggio sounded inspired by sidechaining, which he manually imitates with a his harmonizer (keyboard + vocoder that lets him live harmonize with himself much more than the 3~ note limit with vocoders). Love the reaction! I always try to see what others get out of a song because no two reactions are the same, different details are noticed and in different ways but the enjoyment is shared.

This is my new rabbit hole. I love the layered sounds/tones from one humans that has turned himself into a 30 piece choir! You should check out Sam Robson, very similar in voice layering. Start out with his Circle of life. The thought of the 2 of them collaborating always makes me clutch my pearls and damn near faint.

I consider Sam Robson just as talented as Jacob. He has an unbelievable vocal range and his arrangements are awesome.

Jacob sometimes does live streams where he breaks down in detail the Logic Session for one of his songs. He did one for Moon River. AMAZING! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5WXXoiIrrx4gLM There's also an excellent harmonic analysis of the song here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4Wneayif7-Ajrc

At times I thought I heard one of those massive cathedral pipe organs being played. So astounding throughout. I was beginning to worry about you being able to handle such an ethereal arrangement that was filled with cascading chords and soaring harmonies.

Answer is I couldn't

You still need to see JC perform with Snarky Puppy; a love song in 14/4 called “Don’t You Know”. Then you need to see him soar to even higher heights (yes, they do exist) when he covers “Moon River”… wear a helmet so your skull doesn’t explode. By his own admission, Moon River has over 1200 input lines recorded in Logic

The Christmas song is so perfect all year long. I normally don't even like Christmas music but I can't stop listening to Jacob's rendition of this particular old chestnut...sorry.
@rlhcat76622 жыл бұрын
I was wondering how crazy it was going to make you trying to separate out all the parts in this. So many times, I thought it was going in one direction, and it made a hard right and left me in the dust. Singing all those parts and piecing the video together seems like it would have taken a year to do. It's technically insanely complex and beautiful, but it seems to be missing the soul of the words. I'm not sure, but maybe there can be too much of a good thing.
Back on this one one year later. Still the best reaction to this song on yt atm.
