Is Joshua Fabia a cult leader? How do I not get caught up?? (or: Signs to look for in a GOOD leader)

Ok, this isn't meant to be ANOTHER video about Joshua Fabia. Lord knows there are plenty of those. Honestly, I wanted to do a video talking about the things to look for in a GOOD leader, for those people who may be looking for a gym or team to join. Especially with things opening back up.

I know social media is a scourge in many ways, but one of the ways in which I appreciate it is that it allows me to see sides of some wrestlers and other personalities that I previously wouldn't get to see. I always thought you were good at what you do, but seeing that you're a good *person* (and funny, insightful, contemplative, multifaceted...) made me start to root for you over others. So, I love that for people like you! Enjoying going through all these videos.

Never heard of this guy before but I have been saying this about martial arts for years. We don’t talk enough about martial arts leaders dating students either. Not necessarily a bad thing but definitely a way leaders can exploit their influence over others. Most of the places I’ve trained were good, positive places of learning, but I have seen shady things from other schools. Respect and love to you Shayna, teaching us to protect ourselves from leg kicks, headlocks and bad leaders! 💪🤼‍♀️🥋

This is actually my favorite video of yours so far. I’ve worked in the church for about ten years now, most of which is on charismatic side, so the kinds of people you’re talking about are people who...I may have a bit of experience with... The kinds who create outright cults around themselves or even those who incidentally create cults of personality around themselves; in other words they do it but are not expressly aware that they are doing it. I’ve seen it firsthand in some churches and especially in smaller groups like Bible studies and the like; but also in spiritual leaders, martial arts masters, health gurus, body builders, and even a personal trainer or two. It seems to be the shadow cast by those who have any insight into finding a “better” way in life. As such, more than anything though with this video, I appreciate you offering your insights on warning signs for people that carry this disposition. I think that’s very important for people to be aware of. Both in the context of people looking for a way, but also as a gut check for those offering a way. If you are teaching people and you catch yourself redirecting everything to be about you and how you are perceived or feeling insecure enough about people leaving to try to diminish them to sate your ego...you need to stop and reconsider your present trajectory. It’s a good message to be giving out.

I really loved your point about "judge a tree by its fruit"; very important in any mentor relationship. As a teacher, I always want to leave my students better and more prepared than they were when they started, and it seems like Fabia isn't even considering Diego or his other students at all. Thanks for this video, must have been a total monster to deal with considering all the info and videos out there on cults and cult leadership. Another great video! It's a bonus every time puppy is in the video! It's interesting hearing your view on Josh Fabia and how he is a bad leader. It's really important to understand that no matter how much you think you may know, there is always more to help you improve. That's one reason why I look up to you. What you said about martial arts clubs being cult-ish... I took Tae Kwon Do for five years in Elkhorn, WI, and the club was part of a branch managed by a Master who lived in Madison. That Master was one of 20 Masters who lived in the United States and all answered to a Grandmaster, who literally wrote the book on techniques that the Masters taught to their students. Interestingly enough, the Grandmaster died in the early 2010s and the Madison Master was promoted to Grandmaster himself. Now, I never met the Grandmaster, but my school almost idolized the Madison Master, and by the way he would talk about the Grandmaster and his accomplishments, it was almost as if the Grandmaster was some sort of god. I do hold both men in high regard, since I have a physical disability on my left side and the Madison Master taught me some tricks to working around that that even my normal instructor never knew about, but I see your point on martial arts schools having a cult-like mentality toward their founders. It's interesting in hindsight.

I've known about Diego since tuf 1 and could tell there was something off about Diego's thinking. Doesn't surprise me how easily he was tricked by Fabia. Not to take away from Diego's hall of fame career but I'm just being honest. This is the same dude who marched to the octagon wielding a cross. I'd expect someone who hasn't had many years of mma experience like Diego, to be tricked. Anyway, happy it's over between those two despite Fabia now using character assassination against Diego and that most mma fighters are exposing that fraud. We've already dealt with a charismatic cult leader and the dangers of a narcissist telling lies for a living. Thanks for putting out this video.
@QoSBaszler
@QoSBaszler 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on Diego always being a little bit wacky, but he's had MANY years of MMA experience. That's part of what bothered me about it, at first. Diego has trained and fought extensively.....FOR REAL. Wacky as he may be, he is educated enough in the combat arts that he should have been able to easily see this for the BS it was. Thinking like a cult recruitment mindset, however, I can see that Diego was likely lost. Having coaches and friends start talking about the end of his career and how he should probably think about a future like that.....that's hard to hear for someone that has spent their entire adult life doing nothing but that. It hurts to think about that, you see it in every sport. And here stepped Fabia, the one guy that claimed to tell him he could continue to make him be the monster he was. Classic blueprint for that sort of thing to happen.

Nia Jax 💜 influences me very very heavily because I remember seeing and hearing her story of what she had to overcome on Total Divas (also some scenes along with a WWE Storyline of when I saw her cry, made my heart melt and cry) and that along with how she dominates, pushed through the stereotypes, how she teaches people to accept one another along with beauty is inside no matter your size or how you look, influenced me (because I'm a big tall guy) to love myself flaws and all and to not care about people's negative opinions.

great clip again Baez , marketing and building brands some people seem like they have an early 90s self help/ marketing book and turned them selves into a self promoting brand , as they see them selves as a brand going out side there comfort limits might be damaging to success . This leads to an over representation of movements flowery nonsense , actually every thing can be explained through human biology and physics there is only hard work , they might well limit themselves by their own financial goals . What looks dramatic reinforces the brand image too, you know like extreme conditioning but it doesnt help if you get punched on the nose so for me always basics over anything else

I would like to see you do other videos about cults it's always been an interesting subject to me. I wonder if you could rank the leaders of the cults like who were most evil. For me Jim Jones is the most evil personally but I could be missing someone

"Most evil" is such a subjective thing. I could honestly start an entire different channel on cults, the subject is so massive.
