I’ve been using the QSC K12. 2’s quite a bit. They’re really pretty great speakers. Much more flat in response than the original K12’s. And considerably louder. So far, the only thing out there that’s killing the K 12..2’s are the Yamaha DZR12’s. And the Yamaha’s are only a little bit better.

To be honest, I like a lot of Mackie models for sound quality, but I’ve always thought that they were visually distracting. I actually think the best looking and sounding portable PA speaker of all time, to my eyes and ears, was the original QSC K10, mostly because they are simplistic in design, but the components are slightly visible behind the grill, giving them a powerful look. And they also sounded better than the new ones to me. They seemed to put out a ton of bass for their size.

Both sound grate. Qsc's have recessed mids while Mackie's are the exact oposit with a bit foreword mids. This also helps giving the impression of a much louder sound from the Mackie.

I have the SRM's. I play mostly outdoor gigs with my wife. I really love them. Very durable. Throw a ton of sound which we need when playing outdoor festivals. I would buy again. I looked into getting a column system but I just couldn't find one that compared for outdoor use.

The levels weren't matched so there's no way to conclude which speaker sounds better. I do understand that both were set at 12 oclock but the pots can have a different slope to them so one might be pushing more watts at 12 than the other though the other might be louder at full volume.
@DJ-Coma3 жыл бұрын
Exactly this. I saw another comparison video of these two speakers that did the exact same thing. When comparing audio sources, our ears fool us into thinking the louder one sounds better. The two recordings should have their levels matched in post production for a more fair comparison.
@ParmerleeTube2 жыл бұрын
@@DJ-Coma Post production wouldn't have helped in this case because the Mackie recording was distorted in most cases. Best to re-run the test properly with equal sound levels and possibly with a mic that has a 10 or 20 dB pad to avoid the distortion in the recording.

I wanted the QSC but the SRMs were a total of $570 cheaper than the K12.2 per pair and the sound was not different enough to spend more on the K12.2. QSC = $1000 each and Mackie was $737 each. Accounting for tax it is a $570 difference per pair. Now that I have the SRM212 V-class I have no plans to buy the K12.2. Yes, the mids are hot, but in a crossover scenario with subs, hot mids on the tops is a good thing.

The low frequencies on the Mackie is better and louder than the qsc. This is the second comparison I've listened to and the comparisons are the same. The qsc does come in a lil more crisp though.
@alpoulin12 жыл бұрын
Improperly matched levels on the speakers will always make the louder one sound better (or inaccurately louder) to most people in such a demo, unfortunately. Since different speakers from different manufacturers have different sensitivity, some simply require more signal to produce the same SPL. This has nothing to do with their sound quality or maximum output however. That said, while QSC Ks are not my favorite sounding speaker, they are much more likely to be rocking in 5 years and still have proper customer support while the Mackies are more likely to be in a landfill somewhere. I'm happy to see Mackie does seem to be improving quality wise, their past history has not been stellar in terms of customer service.
@ParmerleeTube2 жыл бұрын
The levels weren't eve close, and it appeared the microphone was much closer to the Mackie. As a result the QSC sounded puny and the Mackie sounded distorted on most of the samples. The decibel levels between the two speakers are virtually identical and I know the Mackie doesn't sound atrociously distorted when the gain staging is right. Given that both have decent limiters in the DSP, the distortion was probably coming from the recording (into the mic) rather than from any problem with the speaker.

Being an audiophile for decades an venturing into live sound forv7 years, I believe the Qsc are definitely more defined and capable. The percussion of the piano be it even synthesized, has more impact as you can hear the keys contact the strings and ring the harp. They have more depth and bloom. Not veiled or set back. Ti get the best out if any speaker and to take off the annoying edge of these digital amps, I would suggest using a good outboard hi fi dac from the peripheral ti the board. BTW, I M an Fcc licensed radio and radar technology and also repair gear and use tube amps when practical. Check out hi fi Dacs. Also use a good board. I use Allen and heath exclusively. This comparison lacks the ONE factor that matters above all else for a working professional DJ: Reliability, backed with a warrantee. The QSC boasts an unheard of 6 year warrantee. Mackie's is nowhere to be found. The bottom line is both these products will sound great out the box at your gig. But when the Mackie fails a year in (their quality tanked when they moved production overseas) you'll look like a fool. My QSCs have never, ever, failed me. Not once. As long as they keep the build quality robust, and back it up with that warrantee, I'll keep coming back. The bluetooth does look nice tho
