I agree. It's a good knife, and for under 30 bucks, it's an incredible value. I've always wondered why we hear so little about it. I own one, and I'm quite happy with it. Great little knife at a great price.

I was amazed I hadn’t even heard about it before I stumbled across it looking at other QSP knives. I even tuned the liner lock to eliminate the blade opening when slamming like I demonstrated in this video without affecting the lock up! Phenomenal value!

As far as I understand washer pivots are far better with blood and dirt (referring to the hard life of hunting knives) than ball bearings. The washers should last longer, and nylon is very durable.

JD thanks for showing the Parrot. I have a question about being able to shake the blade open. I have the QSP Penguin and I can’t shake it open while holding the handle like you showed, but I can shake it open if holding it by the blade and shake it. It opens very easily. Is that also a problem? I can’t do the same with my Spyderco Salt wharncliffe for example. Thanks for your video and any feedback on that.

Thanks for watching 👍 if you cannot do it easily, I would not be concerned. The detent keeping the blade in while holding the handles should mean the knife is plenty safe and not as likely to deploy on accident.

I have a Penguin and I can shake it open pretty easily holding the handle. The detent is pretty bad on both models.

You could take it apart and bend the lock bar a little bit for a stronger detent if it’s a problem

amazing value for something which was sold by it's Chinese manufacture almost certainly for under $3 a unit, and yes, they make money selling them at that price.

Man knife is so beautiful. Unfortunately mine came with a defective liner lock and had to return it. Will be doing a video on it when I get the replacement.

Sorry to hear that, I know it happens but that’s the first time I’ve heard someone say it was then. I’m sure the next one will be good 👍🏼

@@dailygearguide yeah, I don't think this is a normal problem as far as I can tell. I was sort of shocked how bad the liner lock fit was. The bar couldn't even slide into place, it was too long by quite a bit you can see easily with the naked eye. Luckily the replacement is coming within three days of placing a claim so customer service is good. It happens to the best of them sometimes.

@@oldcrowcornhole that’s great servicing, standing behind the product 👍🏼 I only have 3 different QSP folders, but they have all been well built just needed to tune the liner lock a bit but that’s happened on other brands too.

Do you like a warn cliff or drop point more?

@@dailygearguide This is my first EDC knife. I think I may like the versitality of a drop point more. I already have a decent utility knife. Which do you prefer? Is either one better made? Fit and finish?

@@bobbychuckles8764 I prefer drop point or spear point for using… but wharncliff and sheepsfoot blades are easier to sharpen, due to the straight edge.

For years the Western knife industry has been on a warning about the ever improving quality and ultra-competitive pricing of Chinese knives. They basically ignored it and now we're at the point where they just can't compete. It irritates and upsets the hell out of me. I have these both, they are a "head" purchase of a working knife, why would I buy a Buck at three times the price, a Benchmade at four or five?
@jeffhicks8428

lol. all it means in real life is the US based companie have a ton of margin to play with when they use Chinese manufacturing. I'd bet you my life qsp doesn't pay a cent more than $3 a unit for these, that's packaging and shipping to the US included btw. They turn around and sell them for 10x. Its not like Chinese sell them directly into the US. You wanna know why everything is made in China? Because they can make it better and for less. Compared to US manufacturing today, Chinese is between 3x to 4x more efficient. That means you can have the same item made spec for spec for between 1/3 to 1/4 of the price in China vs what it costs in the US.

Has anyone ever tried Otis dry lube ?
@dailygearguide

I’ve actually tried the dry lube from WD40 on my mountain bike. Works great in dry conditions but doesn’t hold up well against moisture. I probably would use it on my knife pivot. Might break down.
